Job Description




Position: Assistant Principal of Student Culture
Department/Campus: Campus


Reports to: Principal


Work Hours / Days: Normal School hours / 210 days
JOB GOAL
Responsible for assisting the principal to provide the cultural and administrative leadership necessary for addressing student safety
and well-being, social-emotional learning, school discipline, and overall school effectiveness to create a strong culture for learning.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
o Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
o Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in a PK-12 setting( Dove Experience preferred)


o Elementary Experience (preferred)


o Master’s Degree (preferred)




DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Understands and supports the mission, vision, and values of DOVE Schools.
o Investigate and resolves all discipline problems in a fair and just manner
o Investigates student complaints and grievances.
o Interviews students and witnesses in disciplinary investigations.
o Investigate, adjudicate, and monitor minor infractions of the school code in the form of progressive discipline such as detentions, classroom referrals, Saturday detention, and in-school suspension.
o Maintains disciplinary records required by policy, regulation, law, or good practice.
o Develops and administers disciplinary procedures in accordance with district policies and state laws; receives referrals and confers with students, parents, teachers, community agencies, and law enforcement; responds to and resolves parent, student, and staff concerns and complaints; serves on discipline or expulsion panels as assigned.
o Supervises students on campus before and after school; monitors students during lunch, recess, passing periods, and other activities;
instructs students on inappropriate behavior; disciplines students in accordance with established guidelines.
o Works with the Principal to establish a safe and secure learning environment for students.
o Develops plans for emergency situations in collaboration with other administrators, staff, and public safety agencies; direct the work of
yard duty staff and crossing guards; plan and debriefs emergency drills; update the school safety plan.
o Prepares and maintains a variety of district, county, state, and federal records and reports; directs preparation of records and reports by staff.
o Participates in administrative meetings and training to improve administrative skills; maintains current knowledge of the district’s adopted curriculum.
o Provides and maintains appropriate communication with family and community, including law enforcement agencies and the judicial systems.
o Works with community and government agencies on problems relating to drug abuse and truancy
o Serves as liaison between school and home
o  Serves as liaison between the school and juvenile court
o Represents the school system at community meetings and conferences
o Participate in the creation and implementation of the campus's emergency evacuation and preparedness plan
o Mentor and council at-risk students and students in need of additional staff support
o Develops guidelines for proper student conduct and implement disciplinary procedures and policies that ensure a safe and orderly environment at the assigned school
o Establishes clear expectations, systems, and routines for behaviors, including social and emotional supports
o Leads strategies to proactively provide and coordinate student support services
o Supervises teacher classroom management.
o Trains staff on student code of conduct and implementation of discipline.
o Develops and implement teacher orientations.
o Maintains records of disciplinary actions taken to ensure that the student code of conduct is administered properly.
o Communicates with parents and key stakeholders regarding student discipline and safety.
o Maintains a safe and orderly school environment.
o Monitors the school ground actively for safety checks.
o Monitors student attendance and truancy, recruitment, enrollment, and retention activities
o Assists in recruiting, selecting, and retaining highly effective teachers and staff
o Establishes and implements a plan for Well-being learning across the school aligned with DOVE priorities
o Leads Character School application and designation process at the state and national level
o Establishes a professional rapport with students, parents, staff, and community
o Uses appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parental involvement
o Attends meetings, conferences, and workshops.
o Models personal commitment to developing self and others
o Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, and school personnel.
o Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
o Thorough knowledge of classroom management, school culture, social-emotional learning programs, district policies, and procedures
o Ability to receive, internalize, and implement feedback from multiple sources
o Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
o Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
o Ability to use computer including software, the database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine, and telephone.
o Ability to analyze data and generate reports.
o Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills



WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
o Light Work: may require occasional light lifting.
o Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
o Position is in the office setting and may involve prolonged work at a desk in one location.
o Moderate travel is required.
