Assistant Professor - Clinical Psychology (Applied AI)

The Department of Psychology at the University of South Florida invites applications for a 9-month, full-time appointment of a tenure-track scholar in clinical psychology at the Assistant Professor level, with service to begin August 7, 2027.  

We seek a clinical scientist whose program of research develops, evaluates, studies, or uses artificial intelligence to advance clinical psychology and mental health. This work may seek to improve understanding of the mechanisms associated with psychological disorders or to develop, evaluate, and implement approaches to their assessment, prevention, and treatment. 

Relevant areas of research include, but are not limited to: AI-supported assessment, diagnosis, and clinical decision-making; digital and adaptive interventions, including interventions delivered through conversational agents; research on how AI affects clinical practice, clinical populations, and mental health outcomes; and the safe, effective, and responsible development and use of AI in clinical settings. 

The successful candidate will join a department with established strengths in psychopathology and addiction and will have opportunities to collaborate across the University of South Florida, including with USF Health and the Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing. 

Applicants should demonstrate an active, programmatic line of research; excellence or strong potential in undergraduate and graduate teaching; and a commitment to the clinical science approach. 

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of research, pursue external research funding,  mentor doctoral students, and contribute to the program’s core undergraduate and/or graduate curriculum.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Psychology from an accredited institution and demonstrate achievement or strong potential in research, teaching, and service. Candidates must meet University criteria for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applications from individuals who are ABD will be considered, provided that all requirements for the doctoral degree are completed by the appointment start date.

Strong preference will be given to applicants with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from an PCSAS-, APA-, or CPA-accredited doctoral program and completion of an APA- or CPA-accredited predoctoral internship. Eligibility for licensure as a psychologist in Florida is also desirable.
