Job Description - Assistant Professor - Nursing Faculty



Full-time, Contract


Description

The Nursing Faculty member serves as principal faculty within the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program and provides instruction in classroom, clinical, laboratory, simulation, and practicum settings. This position supports student success, curriculum development, accreditation, assessment, and continuous program improvement while contributing to the mission and growth of the nursing program.

The ideal candidate will possess expertise in Medical-Surgical Nursing, Critical Care Nursing, or Acute Care Nursing and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in nursing education, clinical instruction, and student development.

Primary Responsibilities:

Teaching & Student Success

  • Teach nursing courses in classroom, clinical, laboratory, simulation, and practicum settings. 
  • Provide instruction utilizing evidence-based teaching strategies and active learning methodologies. 
  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback. 
  • Maintain office hours and provide academic advising and mentorship to students. 
  • Support student retention, progression, and NCLEX-RN success initiatives. 
  • Facilitate the development of clinical judgment, critical thinking, prioritization, and application of the nursing process.
  • Participate in student recruitment, orientation, progression, and graduation activities. 
  • Demonstrate flexibility in teaching across multiple levels and learning environments within the curriculum.
  • Teach nursing courses in classroom, online, clinical, laboratory, simulation, and practicum settings.

Curriculum, Assessment & Accreditation

  • Participate in curriculum development, implementation, review, and revision. 
  • Contribute to program assessment and continuous quality improvement initiatives. 
  • Assist with accreditation, regulatory compliance, annual reporting, and program evaluation activities. 
  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure curriculum alignment with AACN Essentials and Missouri State Board of Nursing requirements. 
  • Participate in development, implementation, and evaluation of student learning outcomes. 
  • Contribute to data collection, analysis, and reporting related to student and program outcomes.

Scholarship & Service

  • Engage in scholarship consistent with faculty rank and institutional expectations. 
  • Participate in faculty governance, committees, and college service activities. 
  • Maintain professional development and clinical competence. 
  • Participate in professional organizations and community engagement activities. 
  • Support student scholarly and professional development activities.

Clinical & Community Engagement

  • Foster productive relationships with clinical agencies, healthcare systems, and community partners. 
  • Collaborate with healthcare partners to support high-quality clinical and practicum experiences. 
  • Participate in clinical site development and maintenance activities. 
  • Support simulation, laboratory, and experiential learning initiatives. 
  • Represent the nursing program in professional and community settings as appropriate.

Work Environment

This position includes classroom teaching, online instruction, clinical instruction, laboratory and simulation teaching, student advising, committee service, scholarship activities, and participation in accreditation and assessment processes. Some travel to clinical agencies may be required. Occasional evening or weekend activities may be necessary to support program needs.


Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution. 
  • Current unencumbered Missouri RN license or eligibility to obtain Missouri licensure. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent clinical nursing practice. 
  • Clinical expertise in Medical-Surgical Nursing and/or Critical Care Nursing strongly preferred. (Candidates with other acute care backgrounds will be considered.) 
  • Experience teaching, precepting, or supervising nursing students. 
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and healthcare partners. 
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. 
  • Ability to meet all clinical site health, immunization, background check, and drug screening requirements.

Highly Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), PhD in Nursing, or related doctoral degree. 
  • Experience teaching prelicensure BSN students. 
  • Experience teaching Adult Health I, Adult Health II, Critical Care Nursing, Community, Leadership, Practicum, or related nursing courses. 
  • Experience with simulation-based education. 
  • Experience with curriculum development and course design. 
  • Experience with nursing accreditation, assessment, and program evaluation. 
  • Experience supporting NCLEX-RN preparation and student success initiatives. 
  • Record of scholarship, presentations, publications, or research activities. 
  • National specialty certification in area of clinical expertise.
