Assistant Radiation Safety Officer - Radiology Administration

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Sciences

License/Registration:

• General Radiographer, Nuclear Medicine Technologist, Radiation Therapy Technologist

Certifications:

• Radiation Safety Officer Training Certification 
• Or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Certification 
• Or America Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification

Work Experience\: 

• Five (5) years of experience.

• Proficiency in radiation safety principles, standards, and regulations to ensure compliance and safeguard against potential hazards. 
• Strong analytical skills to assess radiation exposure and potential risks, and to develop radiation safety plans accordingly. 
• Effective communication skills to articulate radiation safety procedures and precautions to staff and handle regulatory reporting. 
• Excellent problem-solving skills to identify, investigate, and rectify any radiation safety issues or incidents. 
• Detail-oriented and organizational skills to manage records, maintain equipment, and ensure adherence to safety protocols.

The Assistant Radiation Safety Officer (ARSO) supports Tampa General Hospital's Radiation Safety Officer in ensuring regulatory compliance and radiation protection across hospital‑based and outpatient imaging sites. This role applies advanced technical knowledge to support radiation safety programs, personnel dosimetry, audits, incident response, and inspection readiness in high‑risk clinical environments such as interventional radiology, CT, nuclear medicine, and fluoroscopy. The ARSO works collaboratively with imaging leaders, physicians, technologists, and medical physicists to promote safe practices and regulatory adherence. This is an advanced, non‑administrative professional role with enterprise impact and limited day‑to‑day supervision.

Essential Functions:

• Assist the RSO in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional requirements including Florida 64E-5, TJC standards, and TGH policies 
• Maintain accurate records related to radiation exposure, incident logs, dosimetry, ALARA audits, PPE inventories and documentation, calibration, and documentation, identify breeches of ALARA thesholds 
• Assists with regulatory compliance for all radiation‑producing modalities, including diagnostic radiology, fluoroscopy, interventional radiology, CT, nuclear medicine, radiation oncology, and mobile imaging services. 
• Prepare quarterly, annual reports, and exposure summaries, and compliance data for the RSC, present findings at RSC meetings 
• Performs or supports radiation surveys, audits, and compliance reviews of imaging areas, shielding practices, and safety controls. 
• Assists with radiation safety incident response, including documentation, investigation support, and corrective action follow‑up 
• Works routinely in active clinical environments where ionizing radiation is used and collaborates directly with imaging leadership, medical physicists, and frontline staff. 
• Ensures staff adherence to shielding guidelines, educate and track shielding issues 
• Prepares reports, exposure summaries, and compliance data for Radiation Safety Committee meetings and supports follow‑up actions. 
• Coordinates and delivers radiation safety education and training for technologists, physicians, residents, and clinical staff across multiple TGH sites. 
• Maintain radiation safety records, databases, and compliance documentation in audit ready condition 
• Develop radiation safety training and maintain records
