Assistant/Associate Professor of Childhood Education

Summary:  

We invite applications for on-campus full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Childhood Education in Keuka College’s Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) accredited education program.  Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This role offers an opportunity to prepare the next generation of highly competent, compassionate, and practice-ready educators through innovative, student-centered approach.  

The successful candidate will enjoy teaching elementary education and other education courses to education majors preparing for certifications at all levels (early childhood, childhood, adolescent), as well as courses.  In addition, the successful candidate will instruct within the College’s the general education “Compass Curriculum” to non-education majors. We are seeking a dynamic educator with strong teaching skills, a commitment to student success and academic excellence, and the ability to create inclusive learning environments. 

Preference will be given to applicants who in addition to traditional instructional designs can demonstrate knowledge of and demonstrated ability to develop and deliver highly engaging and rigorous content in fully online, hybrid, executive, and/or low residency modalities. 

Essential Responsibilities: 

• Teach undergraduate and graduate in elementary and literacy education and other related education courses to education majors using a variety of delivery formats, including traditional, hybrid, and online.  
• Teach undergraduate courses in the general education curriculum when required using a variety of delivery formats, including traditional, hybrid, and online. 
• Foster an inclusive, engaging learning environment that promotes professional judgment, critical thinking, and pre-service teacher development. 
• Design and assess student learning using evidence-based teaching and evaluation strategies. 
• Provide timely feedback and maintain accurate records of student performance, progression, and outcomes. 
• Advise and mentor students, supporting academic progression, licensure readiness, and career development. 
• Engage students in research projects and/or other scholarly endeavors. 
• Participate in the development, multiple modality implementation, and evaluation/assessment of course content and curriculum aligned with student learning outcomes, AAQEP Standards, and current New York State standards and certification expectations. 
• Support accreditation and regulatory compliance through documentation, reporting, and data-driven decision-making. 
• Engage in shared governance, including active participation on departmental, divisional, and college-wide committees. 
• Collaborate on student recruitment, retention, and program growth initiatives. 
• Maintain an active role in service and, as appropriate, scholarship and professional development. 
• Demonstrate professionalism, ethical practice, and alignment with the College’s mission, vision, and values. 
• Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Keuka College mission, vision and values and adhering to institutional policies. 
• Maintain student privacy in accordance with the FERPA privacy policies and procedures. 
• Regular and reliable on-campus attendance is expected and required. 

Required Qualifications: 

• A graduate degree in elementary education, literacy, or a closely related field from an accredited institution is required.   
• Applicants are expected to have a background in elementary classroom teaching experience, literacy education and teacher preparation instruction leading to childhood Grades 1-6 and/or literacy certification area. 
• State-issued teaching certification in childhood, and/or early childhood, and/or literacy. 
• Demonstrated ability for excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate teaching, including the ability to develop and deliver highly engaging and rigorous content in traditional, hybrid, and online modalities.  
• A proven track record of student-centered teaching. 
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. 
• Ability to teach in both in-person and online environments (experience with LMS platforms preferred). 
• Commitment to student-centered teaching, mentoring, and inclusive excellence. 
• Understand and behave with a high level of integrity and confidentiality at all times.  

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Doctorate in elementary education, literacy, or a closely related field.  
• Student teacher supervision experience. 
• Prior teaching experience in undergraduate and/or graduate education programs. 
• Experience with online teaching. 
• Familiarity with accreditation, regulatory standards, and outcomes assessment in NYS teacher education. 
• Experience with curriculum design, program evaluation, and quality improvement. 
• Engagement in scholarship and research. 

Physical Requirements: 

• Some evening and weekend hours required.   
• Occasional lifting of boxes, supplies, etc., generally less than 30 lbs.
