Associate Attorney - General Liability Defense

Pay: $130,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year

Note: Candidates must have an active New York bar license and at least 2+ years of civil litigation experience. General liability defense experience is strongly preferred, and trial experience is a major plus.

Job Description

• Manage a diverse caseload of general liability defense matters from inception through resolution.
• Handle personal injury, motor vehicle, property damage, construction and labor law, and product liability cases.
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, reports, and legal memoranda.
• Take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts.
• Conduct legal research and analysis to develop effective case strategies.
• Appear in court, participate in conferences, arbitrations, mediations, and trials.
• Communicate regularly with clients, courts, opposing counsel, witnesses, and co-counsel.
• Provide timely case updates, strategy recommendations, and litigation assessments.
• Work closely with partners, associates, and legal staff in a collaborative team environment.
• Manage files efficiently while meeting billing, budget, and client service expectations.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of civil litigation experience required.
• 3+ years of general liability defense experience strongly preferred.
• Active New York bar license in good standing required.
• Experience with depositions, discovery, court appearances, and motion practice.
• Trial experience is a strong plus.
• Strong research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple cases independently and collaboratively.
• J.D. from an accredited law school required.

• Salary Bands:

  • 2 to 3 years relevant civil litigation experience: $130,000 to $145,000

  • 4 to 5 years general liability defense experience: $145,000 to $160,000

  • 6 to 7 years strong GL defense experience with courtroom/deposition experience: $160,000 to $170,000

  • Trial experience may justify the higher end depending on JD year and fit.
