Job Description - Associate Civil Engineer

The City of Pinole is seeking an experienced, adaptable, and well-rounded Associate Civil Engineer to join its Public Works Department. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering professional who enjoys variety, autonomy, and the ability to see the direct impact of their work in the community.

The Associate Civil Engineer will manage and coordinate a diverse portfolio of municipal projects involving roadways, paving, parks, facilities, stormwater, sewer, and other public infrastructure. With approximately 50 active projects anticipated during the current fiscal year, the successful candidate will have an immediate opportunity to contribute to important community improvements while working closely with Public Works leadership, consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other City departments.

The ideal candidate will be an organized, adaptable, and collaborative professional with strong project management skills and experience working with consultants and contractors. The City is looking for someone who communicates well, exercises sound professional judgment, can independently move projects forward, and is comfortable wearing multiple hats in a smaller municipal environment. Strong written communication, initiative, confidence, and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities will be important for success.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a related field and four years of qualifying professional experience in a public works setting or as a professional engineer working with public agencies.

Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in good standing in any U.S. state is preferred. Candidates who are not currently registered may still be considered based on the strength of their overall qualifications and experience. An individual registered outside California would be expected to obtain California Professional Civil Engineer registration within 12 months of employment, although the City may consider modifying this requirement or timeframe for an otherwise well-qualified candidate.

The City offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including a recruitment incentive of up to 20% of annual salary, consideration of prior public-sector service for vacation accrual, potential front-loading of vacation and sick leave, and retiree medical benefits subject to eligibility requirements.

Salary: $120,536 – $146,515 annually

Application Deadline: Friday, October 23, 2026

To be considered for this opportunity, candidates should submit a cover letter and résumé through Alliance Resource Consulting at www.alliancerc.com. Interested applicants are welcomed to reach out to lead recruiter, Wes Herman [email protected] for additional details.
