Job Description - Associate Director, Human Cognitive Neuroscience

Job Description

The QMCT Human Cognitive Neuroscience Lead will be a member of the newly created Cognition Center of Excellence in the Quantitative Medicine and Clinical Technologies line. QMCT builds knowledge tools and drives the science to compute and quantify the health state of patients thus providing a rigorous paradigm for improving clinical trial and patient outcomes measures and connecting value to the core biology of a target. The QMCT group uses an applied systems science model to incorporate multi-scale computational modeling and simulation along with experimental medicine studies and the development and industrialization of novel clinical technologies to bring specific value to development and discovery; catalyzing the organization towards a human-centric transformative quantitative biology strategy for drug development / discovery. QMCT includes platforms in clinical technologies (including digital and internet of things approaches), quantitative medicine, advanced modeling/analytics and experimental medicine and relies on robust interfaces with groups across the Biogen enterprise and broadly in the external environment.

This role will report to the Head, Cognition Center of Excellence. This individual will have critical role as a key scientific contributor to the CoE exhibiting scientific leadership to provide strategic and scientific guidance with sophisticated drug development knowledge delivering neuro circuit sensitive cognitive measurement in clinical trials constrained by industrializable but sophisticated translational programs. This position requires a senior biomedical scientist with industrial experience who will be able to work in a highly matrix environment and can lead a variety of teams across the enterprise unified by the: Ability to provide in depth understanding of how brain circuits control discrete measurable behaviors, Measurement of the functional impact of new therapies in neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric populations, Ability to work collaboratively across the enterprise including R&D, PO&T, WWM and Commercial business units. The individual will need to be forward thinking and simultaneously see what the current demands of the organization are and what the future can deliver and then can plot a trajectory in which these meet to deliver meaningful solutions linking better measurement and industrialization of clinical outcomes to the drug discovery and development pipeline. This individual will work interactively both internally and externally to identify and develop future science and technology platforms that are critical to the ultimate QMCT Lab mission of building specific portfolio solutions enabling the company to be a leader in quantitative neuro medicine.

Principle Accountabilities:
1. Quantitative Medicine Point of Contact for MS and 1-2 other specific portfolio programs specifically needing cognition measures and outcomes across the Biogen portfolio.

2. Member of the Cognitive Center of Excellence community of practice responsible for integrating quantitative tools into early and late stage assets with clinical trial endpoint application.

3. Responsible for External scientific leadership in the areas of cognition that both serve the current portfolio and that will impact the portfolio in the future. This includes academic, industrial and patient advocacy interactions. Responsible for leading interactions with IMI, FNIH, industry-consortia, etc

4. Group leader for a Cognition Community of Practice team that is drawn from across the organization and is focused on integrating pre-clinical work and labs to ensure back-translation of humanized drug development into the discovery process. This role will be expected to develop and implement the strategy and tactics to create a new model for neuro-cognition and neuropsychiatric drug discovery incorporating the principles of QMCT.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years neuroscience clinical and preclinical endpoint development.

• 5+ years experience in pharmaceutical drug discovery R&D environment with experience in discovery, early clinical development. Late stage development and value and access
