Associate Director of Southwest Iowa Foundations

The Associate Director of Southwest Iowa Foundations serves as the Foundation’s lead representative in Southwest Iowa, responsible for growing philanthropic impact, strengthening community partnerships, and advancing regional engagement. 

The position builds and maintains relationships with donors, professional advisors, nonprofit leaders, businesses, and community stakeholders to identify charitable giving opportunities and support new fund development. Working closely with advisory committees, donors, and internal teams, the role drives regional strategies, oversees grantmaking and scholarship activities, and ensures Foundation priorities are effectively advanced throughout Southwest Iowa. 

This position also provides leadership in community engagement, business development, and relationship management while monitoring emerging trends and opportunities that inform regional and Foundation-wide decision-making. 

Qualifications:

: 

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business management, finance, or a related field*


• Previous nonprofit managerial experience, to include knowledge in the areas of fundraising, program activities, finance, operations and communications 


• Ability to operate and lead in accordance with the highest ethical standards and in line with the Foundation’s stated values  


• Computer literate to include database management, grantmaking software ability, Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Publisher), etc. 


• Strong project management skills, with demonstrated experience managing complex projects with a variety of stakeholders and the ability to adapt to changes in work demand  


• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, as well as strong verbal and presentation skills 


• Demonstrated leadership experience with willingness and ability to work as a team member with colleagues and external partners 

Preferred: 

• A master’s degree or advanced post-secondary program


• A background in financial planning, planned giving, and/or trusts and estates  


• Active network in Southwest Iowa communities who are donors or potential donors to the Foundation 
  


• In-depth knowledge of the philanthropic sector, philanthropic organizations, and charitable planning tools and vehicles, as well as related laws and regulations  


• Advanced education or certification, including but not limited to Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®), 2164 Certification, AEP, or willingness to obtain within the role   

*A combination of relevant education and previous experience may be considered in lieu of the defined educational requirements. 

Essential Functions: 

• Grow philanthropic activity and new fund development in Southwest Iowa by implementing donor development, advisor engagement, and business development initiatives aligned with Foundation-wide strategies, goals, and metrics.


• Build and maintain relationships with attorneys, accountants, financial advisors, and other community stakeholders to identify charitable giving opportunities and strengthen philanthropic engagement throughout the region.


• Lead the Foundation's presence and community engagement efforts in Southwest Iowa, serving as a visible ambassador and building relationships with community leaders, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and residents.


• Recruit, train, and support Southwest Iowa advisory committee members while partnering with advisory committees to advance regional priorities, philanthropic opportunities, and community impact.


• Direct regional grantmaking and scholarship activities, including the administration of related policies, procedures, and funding processes.


• Partner with internal teams to align Southwest Iowa activities with Foundation priorities, strengthen donor engagement, and support cross-functional initiatives.


• Monitor trends, opportunities, and developments affecting philanthropy and community needs in Southwest Iowa, contributing insights and recommendations that inform strategy and decision-making.


• Partner with Marketing & Communications and other internal teams to support consistent messaging, outreach, events, communications, and initiatives that increase awareness of the Foundation's mission, services, and impact.


• May be required to complete other duties within scope as assigned.

Environment

The primary work location is 1120 S. 101st Street in Omaha, Nebraska. This role is expected to work primarily from the office, with occasional flexibility to work from home. This position also requires regular travel throughout a nine-county region in southwest Iowa to support meetings, events, and community engagement activities.
