Job Summary


Responsible to the Director of TRIO Programs for coordinating the day-to-day operations of each program; supervising the implementation of all conditions presented in the Educational Talent Search grant proposal and the Education Opportunity Center grant proposal; planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating educational, career, social, and cultural activities for middle school, high school, and adult participants; coordinating the advertisement, interviewing, and selection of project staff and their training, supervision, and evaluation; establishing and maintaining a visible public relations, marketing, and professional activity plan for the project; and, performing other related duties as assigned as presented in the grant proposal; planning, developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating educational, career, social and cultural activities to 600 middle school and high school students; coordinating the advertisement, interviewing, and selection of project staff; training, supervising and evaluating project staff; establishing and maintaining a viable public relations, marketing and professional activity plan for the project; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Knowledge of the successful coordination of an educational outreach program for middle and high school students and adults. 

  • Knowledge of college admissions and financial aid procedures. 

  • Knowledge of the needs of disadvantaged middle school and high school students. 

  • Knowledge of the guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Education as stated in the Education Department General Administrative Regulations, OMB A-121, Federal Register and the approved grant. 

  • Knowledge of university policies, regulations and services. 

  • Knowledge of the organization and administration of middle school and secondary school systems, as well as community agencies, organizations, and services. 

  • Knowledge of budgeting policies and procedures. 

  • Ability to supervise the planning, coordinating, implementing and refining of educational outreach programs for low-income, first-generation middle school and high school students and adults.

  • Ability to establish liaison with middle school and secondary school officials, community agencies, organizations, and local businesses. 

  • Ability to communicate clearly with students, university administration and project staff. 

  • Ability to operate computers proficiently. 

  • Ability to coordinate educational programs for middle school and high school students. 

  • Ability to assess the needs of educationally disadvantaged students. 

  • Ability to organize and manage record keeping for participants. 

  • Ability to make sound, feasible decisions in a timely manner. 

  • Ability to design strategies that utilize successful motivational techniques. 

  • Ability to function independently. 

  • Ability to develop and maintain a positive rapport with target school principals, guidance counselors. 

  • Ability to analyze problems in an objective and consistent manner.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree in education or related area required.

  • Five years of experience in the coordination of educational outreach programs.

  • Five years of experience working with students from varied backgrounds.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience with TRIO programs preferred.
