Associate/Team Lead - M&A

We are Focus Finance, a global network of students interested in finance & banking. Our analysts and partners work across 5 report streams (M&A Deals, Industry Trends, Capital Markets, Equity Research and Global M&A Outlook) to deliver high-quality and rich content reports to our readership and institutional partners. We bring together 90+ passionate, motivated and determined students from 35 universities across 12 countries to provide a truly international platform for career development and networking. You provide extensive coverage of Mergers, Acquisitions, and major corporate transactions and lead the team to excel in research. You will dive into the deal announcement, proxies, earnings calls, and more. You will identify and outline the rationale of both the buyer and seller, underlying trends, market and product opportunities, and key industry consequences of the deals. You will interact and build relationships with like-minded students from across the globe. You will build a strong, performance-oriented team environment and informally coach the incoming analysts. Your key responsibilities

• Conduct research and financial reports writing together with the report team, ensuring execution quality and alignment to Focus Finance’s quality standards

• Liaise with the M&A Global Heads and Leadership Team for strategic and operational division decision-making 

• Participate in the learning schemes and seek to develop your finance knowledge, as well as benefit from practical learning in team and project management

• Help Focus Finance drive engagement, gain new readership and expand its brand presence at new universities 

We carefully recruit all our members to ensure consistency across our branches. We are looking at a number of skills and interests throughout the recruitment process:

• Undergraduate student specializing in finance, management, economics, engineering, or similar (we welcome applications from all universities across the globe)

• Knowledge on how to construct valuation models from scratch (3-statement operating model, DCF, trading comps)

• High industry, business and commercial awareness 

• A strong interest in M&A, capital markets, private equity or corporate development

• Previous leadership/management experience is a plus but not required

• Core soft skills – teamwork, adaptability, resilience, international mindset

• The ability to balance qualitative and quantitative data
