Athletic Trainer

Cheshire Academy has an immediate opening for an ATHLETIC TRAINER

Reports to: Director of Athletics/Head Athletic Trainer

Schedule; 10-months full-time, approximately August 15th to June 15th annually

FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, Director of athletics, and Health center, the Athletic Trainer provides sports health care for all Cheshire Academy Students. The Athletic Trainer will provide athletic training services (injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation, along with sideline injury care, game day coverage). Generally, the schedule will be Mon-Sat, depending on the needs of the athletic department and schedule. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide athletic training services to Cheshire Academy Students as directed by the Director of the Health Center and Head Athletic Trainer. 
• Provide athletic training services to Cheshire Academy student-athletes under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer and according to the Policies and Procedures of Cheshire Academy Athletic Training.
• If the Head Athletic Trainer is not on site, then the Athletic Trainer will take on a leadership role regarding decision-making and implementation of the policies and procedures for the athletic training staff.
• Athletic Training Services as defined by the National Athletic Trainers Association – The management and provision of care of injuries to a physically active person as defined in the state practice act with the direction of a licensed physician. The term includes the rendering of emergency care, development of injury prevention programs and providing appropriate preventative and devices of the physically active person. The term also includes the assessment, management, treatment, rehabilitation, and recondition of the physically active person whose conditions are within the professional preparation and education of a certified athletic trainer. The term also includes the use of modalities such as mechanical stimulation, heat, cold, light, air, water, electric sound, massage, and the use of therapeutic exercises, reconditioning exercise, and fitness programs. 
• Act as liaison between physicians, healthcare specialists, health center staff, coaches, students, and their parents 
• Maintain accurate medical records of all students’ injuries, treatment, and rehabilitation on Cheshire Academy’s electronic medical record system. 
• Communicate with academic assistance, Roxbury instructors, and teachers regarding students’ return-to-learn protocol following a concussion. 
• Provide coaches with timely information on student-athletes’ medical eligibility for team participation under the Cheshire Academy policies and state of Connecticut regulations. 
• Plan and coordinate evidence-based educational programs to students, coaches, and faculty. Perform other duties as assigned by Head of School, Director of Athletics or Director of Health Center.

Salary Range: $53,000 - $65,000

Placement within the applicable range is based on relevant experience and the Academy’s established compensation practices.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training is required, master’s degree preferred. 
• Certification by the NATABOC to qualify for a Connecticut State License to practice. Must have an active license to practice Athletic Training in the State of CT and maintain good standing status.
• Adhere to the NATA and BOC guidelines for maintaining current certification and completing continuing education units (CEUs) by the deadlines set by the BOC; maintains CPR and AED & First aid certification.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Must be a team-oriented person, who aspires to be part of a collective health care team.
• High attention to detail, with the ability to keep accurate records of patient progress using an electronic medical records system.  
• Strong written and oral communication skills.  
• Must have the ability to interact with all levels of faculty, administration, staff, health care providers, students, and parents. compassion for the injured athlete. 
• Must have the physical ability to work on their feet daily, as well as lifting patients and athletic training equipment. 
• Assessment, evaluation, rehabilitation, preventative, and communications skills with other healthcare professionals will be required. 
• Athletic Trainers must be able to think critically and make decisions with the student’s best interest and health in mind and should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
