Job Description - Athletics Supervisor

Department: Recreation                                                                                          Full-Time, Exempt



Position Summary


The Athletic Supervisor performs duties in alignment with Recreation Services Athletic Programming. This position is responsible for leading Athletics programming efforts, including the planning, organization, budgeting, promotion, and implementation of youth and adult sports programs, leagues, camps, and special athletic events throughout the year. Responsibilities also include the supervision of staff and volunteers within assigned program areas.



Essential Responsibilities



  • Organize, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive selection of athletic and recreation programs that meet community needs.

  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, evaluate, and, when necessary, terminate staff, volunteers, and instructors.

  • Order, manage, and distribute program supplies while maintaining appropriate inventory levels.

  • Prepare annual budget projections and monitor revenues and expenditures within assigned areas.

  • Develop seasonal program guide content and coordinate marketing and promotional materials with the Marketing Department.

  • Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements, including program development and pricing adjustments.

  • Maintain accurate records of programs, fees, and participation statistics.

  • Conduct required training and safety programs in accordance with Dundee Township Park District standards.

  • Coordinate with Parks and Facility Management staff to support programs and events.

  • Maintain general knowledge of all Park District programs to effectively assist and direct patrons.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety and loss prevention policies and procedures.

  • Identify and report unsafe conditions; correct issues when possible and promote safe work practices among staff.

  • Attend professional development opportunities, including conferences and workshops.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned and assist other departments as needed.



Communication & Customer Service



  • Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

  • Read and comprehend materials printed in English.

  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm in high-stress or emergency situations.

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships while fostering a collaborative and enthusiastic work environment.

  • Represent the Dundee Township Park District in a professional manner at all times.



Safety & Risk Management



  • Maintain knowledge of general and department-specific safety procedures.

  • Utilize proper equipment or assistance when lifting or moving objects weighing 50 pounds or more.

  • Report all work-related injuries, accidents, and unsafe conditions immediately.

  • Attend required safety trainings and in-service meetings.

  • Address unsafe conditions when possible and communicate risks to staff and supervisors.

  • Follow all incident and accident reporting procedures.



Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or a closely related field preferred.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in recreation program management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, design, implement, and supervise programs and staff.

  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.

  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License (Class D) required.



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities



  • Proficiency with computers and relevant software applications preferred.

  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.

  • Strong communication skills in reading, writing, and speaking English.

  • Effective problem-solving abilities and sound judgment in high-pressure situations.

  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.



Hours & Work Schedule


This is a full-time, year-round exempt position (40 hours per week). The typical schedule is Monday through Friday; however, evenings, weekends, and holidays are required based on operational needs.
