Job Description - Attorney

Patenaude & Felix, APC is seeking a full-time Attorney to join our growing litigation team. This position is ideal for an experienced attorney with a strong background in creditors' rights, and civil litigation who is ready to take on greater responsibility in managing a caseload, developing litigation strategies, working directly with clients, and mentoring junior attorneys and legal staff.

Your Role: Key Responsibilities



  • Independently manage a caseload involving creditors' rights, and civil litigation in both state and federal courts.

  • Develop and implement effective litigation and collection strategies based on case facts, applicable law, and client objectives

  • Draft, review, and oversee pleadings, motions, discovery, legal correspondence, and other litigation documents

  • Represent clients in court proceedings, hearings, depositions, and other litigation-related matters

  • Conduct legal research and analyze applicable statutes, regulations, and case law

  • Review and evaluate case files to identify legal issues, risks, opportunities, and appropriate next steps

  • Manage cases throughout the litigation lifecycle while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, court rules, deadlines, and client requirements

  • Communicate directly with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and other parties regarding case status and litigation matters

  • Provide guidance and direction to junior attorneys, paralegals, and legal support staff

  • Review work product and assist with developing best practices to improve case quality, efficiency, and outcomes

  • Monitor caseload performance, deadlines, and calendaring activity to ensure matters are progressing appropriately

  • Identify potential risks and escalate complex or high-risk matters when appropriate

  • Collaborate with firm leadership and other departments to support client objectives and goals

  • Stay current on developments in creditors' rights, civil procedure, and applicable state and federal regulations

  • Participate in client meetings, training, and other firm or department initiatives as needed


Qualifications



  • Active California Bar license in good standing

  • 3+ years of experience in civil litigation, creditors' rights, banking litigation, or a closely related practice area

  • Strong understanding of the banking and creditors' rights litigation process

  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage a litigation caseload

  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and case-management skills

  • Experience appearing in court and handling litigation matters independently

  • Ability to evaluate cases and exercise sound legal judgment

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and internal teams

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance

  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with attorneys and legal staff

  • Leadership or mentoring experience is a plus

  • Experience with legal case management system is a plus

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel

  • Occasional travel for court appearances and firm-related matters as needed
