Job Description - Attorney Coordinator - FLU (**INTERNAL posting for LASROC employees ONLY**)

Department: Family Law Unit


FLSA Status: Exempt       


Reports to: Program Director and Supervisor (in the immediate interim)


Supervises: None


Compensation: Internal candidates will receive a flat $4,000 increase to their current salary if offered the position.



JOB SUMMARY


The Family Law Attorney Coordinator supports the Family Law Unit by coordinating the assignment of Family Court, divorce cases, or other cases as appropriate, to staff attorneys and ensuring assignments are made accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with grant funding requirements. This position serves as a key liaison between the Family Law Unit, Grants Team, and Finance Team to maintain balanced caseloads, monitor attorney allocations, and support effective case management across multiple counties and funding sources. The Family Law Attorney Coordinator maintains a reduced individual caseload to facilitate timely daily assignment activities and ensure continuity of services to clients.


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Assist the Family Law Director and Family Law Supervising Attorney with the assignment of Family Court matters, including Family Offense, Custody, Child Support, and Paternity proceedings or other Supreme Court cases as appropriate.

  • Review and assign incoming referrals from Family Court and other referral sources, including Willow, online submissions, telephone inquiries, and outside county agencies.

  • Utilize LegalServer to generate reports, review attorney caseloads, and identify cases ready for assignment.

  • Monitor and balance attorney caseloads to promote equitable distribution of work and effective service delivery.

  • Maintain knowledge of grant-funded programs supporting the Family Law Unit, including county coverage and funding source requirements.

  • Track attorney allocations and available funding using allocation reports and spreadsheets provided by the Finance Team.

  • Ensure cases are assigned to attorneys under the appropriate grant funding source and county designation.

  • Collaborate with the Family Law Director, Family Law Supervising Attorney and, Grants Team, and Finance Team regarding case assignments, funding allocations, and reporting needs.

  • Maintain accurate assignment records and case data within LegalServer and other tracking systems.

  • Carry a reduced caseload while prioritizing daily assignment responsibilities and operational support functions.



OTHER DUTIES



  • Assist with special projects related to case management, reporting, and operational improvements within the Family Law Unit.

  • Participate in Unit meetings and training activities as required.

  • Support data collection and reporting efforts related to grant-funded programs.

  • Identify and communicate assignment trends, workload concerns, or allocation issues to leadership.

  • Maintain confidentiality of client, case, and organizational information.

  • Stay informed of changes in Family Court procedures, grant requirements, and internal processes.

  • Provide backup support for assignment-related functions during staff absences or periods of increased workload.

  • Foster positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


 


EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES



  • Admitted to practice Law in NYS; 3 years’ experience preferred

  • Experience in legal services, case management, court administration, social services, or a related field preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Family Court proceedings, including Family Offense, Custody, Child Support, and Paternity matters preferred.

  • Proficiency in LegalServer or similar case management systems.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to review reports, track allocations, and manage multiple priorities.

  • Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and spreadsheet management.

  • Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and decision-making.

  • Commitment to social justice and a passion for serving underprivileged communities.

  • Extended periods of sitting at a desk or workstation while performing administrative tasks.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with associates, supervisors, and external stakeholders in person, over the phone, or via email.

  • Exposure to typical office noises such as phone calls, conversations, and office equipment operation.

  • Work will be performed in an in-office environment.

  • Occasional travel may be required for attending training sessions, conferences, or other related events.
