Job Description - Automation Technician


Job Overview:


Responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing automation, instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems at oil and gas production facilities.


Responsibilities:



  • Troubleshoot PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, communication devices, control panels, and SCADA-related equipment.

  • Install, calibrate, and repair pressure, temperature, level, and flow instrumentation.

  • Diagnose electrical and control-system failures involving relays, sensors, transmitters, switches, power supplies, and wiring.

  • Install and maintain motors, motor controls, VFDs, soft starters, disconnects, transformers, and electrical distribution equipment.

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, one-line diagrams, and P&IDs.

  • Install, terminate, test, and label power, control, instrumentation, and communication wiring.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and operational testing on electrical and automation equipment.

  • Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication networks and cellular or radio-based remote monitoring systems.

  • Document completed work, equipment condition, test results, materials used, and recommended repairs.

  • Follow applicable electrical codes, customer requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and company safety policies.

  • Coordinate with operations personnel to minimize downtime and return equipment to safe, reliable operation.



Key Essential Qualifications:



  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license to include a safe driving record satisfactory to the company.

  • Ability to work well with others and effectively communicate in a team environment to accomplish customer and team goals.

  • Strong work ethic and ability to operate with minimal supervision.

  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and able to respond to call outs.

  • Ability to work away from home on scheduled rotations as needed.


Education, Experience and Skills Required:



  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

  • Valid Driver's License.

  • Must speak write and read English fluently.

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and is subject to random drug testing.

  • Must be capable to physical duties in outdoor environment.
