Job Overview
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under immediate supervision of an Automotive Maintenance Supervisor, washes, lubricates, changes oil and fills fuel tanks in Board vehicles; inflates, repairs and changes tires; picks up and returns vehicles after servicing; picks up auto parts; makes routine road service calls; cleans shop areas; records routine maintenance activities. Work may be assigned and overseen by Automotive Technicians, Leads or the Vehicle Fleet Programs Administrator.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Washes Board vehicles.
Lubricates and changes oil in vehicles.
Fills vehicle tanks with fuel.
Checks vehicle fluid levels.
Checks and inflates tires to correct pressure.
Changes and repairs tires on vehicles.
Picks up and returns vehicles to the Board department after servicing.
Makes road calls to perform routine service.
May drive to pick up parts from auto parts houses.
May issue, receive and account for tools and parts.
Cleans shop area, sweeps floors and stores tools.
Assists Technicians in maintenance and repair work.
Records routine transactions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education less than that required for completion of high school curriculum.
Six (6) months experience performing routine servicing of automotive equipment.
Possession of a Class C driver's license.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in servicing vehicles.
Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with servicing vehicles.
Ability to record routine shop activity.
Ability to pass a medical physical examination.
Ability to work shifts, including nights and weekends.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
This is a designated Essential Employee position as defined in DFW Airport’s Categories and Classifications Administrative Policy and Procedure. An essential employee is one whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.
Incumbent must furnish a partial set of tools to include open and box-end wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches and hammer.
DESIRABLE
Class B commercial driver's license without air brakes restriction (“L” restriction) including the Passenger Transport (P) endorsement.
EFFORT
Works in a maintenance environment.
Subject to inclement weather conditions and vehicle exhaust fumes.
Works in awkward positions such as stooping, squatting or with arms above the head for prolonged periods of time.
Works with lubricants and solvents and around grease, grime and dirt involving heavy exposure to the skin.
Uses hand, power and pneumatic tools.
Performs manual labor, frequently exerting forces equivalent to lifting up to 50 pounds and occasionally exerting forces equivalent to lifting up to 100 pounds.
Road tests vehicles and drives to locations on and off Airport property.
Exchanges information in person, two-way radio and by telephone.
