Work Schedule: Sundays, 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (approx. 6 hrs) | On-Site, West Loop

POSITION SUMMARY
The Barista role helps create a warm, welcoming first impression for every guest who walks through our doors on Sunday. This position exists to uphold Soul City’s standard of excellence in hospitality by serving high quality coffee and creating a space where people feel at home before and after our services.

This is a fast-paced, on-your-feet role. It involves preparing espresso and coffee drinks, serving guests efficiently during peak times between services, keeping the cafe clean and stocked, and helping open and close the cafe each Sunday. Working alongside our volunteer hospitality teams, this role brings excellence, warmth, and consistency to the guest experience at Soul City.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• 60% Beverage Preparation - Prepare espresso, coffee, and specialty drinks to a consistent standard of quality and speed.


• 20% Cafe Open & Close - Set up the cafe before the first service; clean equipment, counters, and dishes; and complete the closing checklist.


• 10% Guest Hospitality - Greet guests warmly, take orders, and be a friendly, helpful presence in the cafe and lobby.


• 10% Inventory & Team Support - Monitor and restock supplies, flag low inventory or equipment issues, and support fellow baristas and volunteers during busy windows.

Experience

• Barista or food service experience preferred


• Comfort operating an espresso machine and grinder
  


• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs
