Barista - Coffee Shop - Full Time

Position Summary 

The Barista is responsible for the general operations related to the coffee shop.  Responsibilities include interacting with customers in a positive manner, cash handling, drink preparation, food preparation, cleaning work areas, general sanitation, collecting garbage and placing in designated containers, washing dishes as well as the cleaning and safe use of kitchen and coffee shop equipment. As a member of the food and nutrition team, assists in other areas of the department as needed, takes initiative, and leads by example.

Experience

• Customer service, point of sale system and cash handling experience required. Knowledge of espresso machines and other coffee equipment operations required. Must have interpersonal skills to handle confidential information, sensitive situations, and ability to work with diverse group of people within and outside the organization. Ability to work cooperatively with peers and supervisors to contribute to the overall productivity of the team 
• Coffee shop or retail food experience preferred

• Personal computer skills preferred.

   

Education, License & Cert: 

• High School Diploma required
• Serve Safe Certification preferred but not required 

Essential Functions: 

1. Develops and maintains good communication with customers and coworkers. 
2. Responds to customer issues and concerns, promptly reports concerns to supervisor. Greets all customers with a smile and helpful demeanor. 
3. Prepares for service by making sure all areas are stocked and ready for on time. Ensures proper food and beverage presentation, portion control, recipe compliance, and temperature maintenance when serving customers.
4. Preps and serves all beverages as per menu making sure quality standards are followed. Uses correct utensils as established by department guidelines. Sets a steady pace allowing service to be completed efficiently and on time. 
5. Enters all sales into cash registers accurately and complies with cash control policies and procedures. 
6. Follows state, JCAHO, and department standards and sanitation procedures, and maintains a clean, sanitary working environment. Immediately reports any safety hazards to supervisor.
7. Works safely with equipment including correct operating and cleaning. Reports malfunctions to supervisor. Does not operate equipment not trained to use.
8. Uses personal protective equipment correctly. 
9. Identifies/utilizes cleaning chemicals used, following directions recommended by manufacturers and SDS sheets.
10. Follows facility and department infection control policies and procedures.
11. Follows facility protocols for hazardous materials and waste program. 

Essential Functions, continued:

1. Adheres to emergency programs and participates in drills as appropriate. 
2. 13. Adheres to life safety program in fire drills as appropriate.
3. Adheres to facility confidentiality and patient rights as outlined in the facility HIPPA policy and procedure.
4. Participates and attends departmental meetings and staff development programs as appropriate.

Other Duties:

1. Assists in the training of new employees, making new employees feel welcomed and at ease.
2. Attends meetings and training sessions as required. Also participates in quality work groups and supports performance improvement initiatives and goals. 
3. Demonstrates effective time management, completes tasks on time. 
4. Demonstrates safe working habits. 
5. Maintains a neat, clean, and sanitary work area. 
6. Maintains good order, cleanliness and sanitary standards of food storage area, freezers, and refrigerators. Must be able to work on a rotation schedule, including weekends and holidays as assigned.
7. Follows dress code and good personal hygiene practice.

Pay Range $17.00 - $22.82/hour, DOE
