Basketball Coach - Junior Varsity Job Description Reporting To: Athletic Director Employment Status: Part-time, Seasonal FLSA Status: Exempt Pay: $3000.00 stipend Summary Of Core Responsibilities & Org Relationships: The JV Basketball Coach is responsible for developing and leading a competitive basketball program that emphasizes athletic excellence, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth. The coach provides instruction in the fundamental skills and strategies of basketball while fostering a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team culture that reflects the mission and values of the school. Duties and Responsibilities: Program Leadership
- Plan, organize, and oversee all aspects of the basketball program
- Develop and implement practice plans that promote individual skill development and team success
- Establish clear expectations for student-athletes regarding conduct, academics, attendance, and sportsmanship
- Build a positive team culture that promotes respect, accountability, and leadership
Coaching Responsibilities
- Teach basketball fundamentals, offensive and defensive systems, game strategy, and sportsmanship
- Evaluate player performance and make roster and playing time decisions based on established program expectations
- Prepare the team for competition through effective planning, scouting, and game management
- Supervise athletes during practices, contests, travel, and team activities
- Promote injury prevention and safe training practices
Student-Athlete Development
- Encourage academic achievement and monitor student eligibility requirements
- Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior
- Foster confidence, resilience, teamwork, communication, and leadership among student-athletes
- Support the social and emotional well-being of team members while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
Administrative Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, school staff, officials, and the athletic department
- Maintain accurate team records, schedules, equipment inventories, and program documentation
- Assist with scheduling contests, coordinating transportation, and organizing team events
- Manage the program budget in accordance with school policies
- Ensure proper care, storage, and maintenance of equipment and uniforms
Compliance
- Follow all school policies and procedures
- Adhere to all state high school athletic association rules and regulations
- Maintain required coaching certifications, CPR/AED, first aid, concussion training, and any other required credentials
- Promote and enforce good sportsmanship among athletes, coaches, and spectators
Job Specifications: Education, Experience, and Credentials
- Previous basketball coaching experience preferred
- Knowledge of basketball techniques, strategies, and player development
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and mentor high school student-athletes
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, coaching staff, parents, and community members
- Successful completion of required background checks
- Current CPR, AED, First Aid, and any state-required coaching certifications (or ability to obtain before the season)

- Hear, speak, and effectively communicate in the English language, including following oral and written instructions, in order to communicate with people inside and outside the organization
- Ability to stand and move throughout practices and competitions
- Ability to demonstrate basketball skills and drills
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to travel with the team to practices and competitions
Tools and Equipment Used
- Must be able to use computers, telephones, photocopiers, and related office equipment
- Must be able to lift/move up to 10-35 pounds occasionally depending on your position
Work Environment
- The work environment is indoors.
- May occasionally participate in off-site student activities for away games
Work Schedule
- Seasonal position requiring practices, competitions, tournaments, evening and weekend commitments, and offseason planning and development as needed.
- Minimum 3 contact days per week.
