Job Description - Behavior Intervention Counselor (BIC)

Adelphi is seeking a qualified Behavior Intervention Counselor (BIC) to provide comprehensive early childhood behavioral health and social-emotional support services for a Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The ideal candidate will support children enrolled in Head Start, Early Head Start, and CCDF programs by delivering trauma-informed behavioral interventions, collaborating with families and educators, and promoting positive social-emotional development through evidence-based practices.

Requirements

• Experience providing behavioral health, mental health, or social-emotional support services to young children.
• Knowledge of early childhood development and behavior intervention strategies.
• Experience conducting behavioral observations, assessments, and developing individualized behavior support plans.
• Ability to implement trauma-informed, evidence-based practices, including Conscious Discipline® methodologies.
• Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, educators, healthcare providers, and families.
• Ability to provide family education, coaching, and behavioral consultation.
• Strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
• Knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS).
• Understanding of FERPA, HIPAA (when applicable), tribal policies, and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Ability to provide staff coaching, professional development, and classroom consultation.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Ability to deliver culturally responsive, family-centered, and strengths-based services.

Responsibilities

• Conduct classroom behavioral observations and comprehensive social-emotional assessments.
• Develop, implement, monitor, and revise individualized behavior intervention plans.
• Provide direct behavioral intervention and social-emotional support to children with challenging behaviors.
• Coach families on positive parenting practices, behavior management, and child development strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, healthcare providers, and community partners to coordinate services.
• Train and mentor classroom staff on trauma-informed care, positive behavior supports, classroom management, and Conscious Discipline® practices.
• Coordinate referrals for behavioral health, developmental, medical, and community-based services while monitoring follow-up activities.
• Maintain accurate, confidential documentation, reports, assessments, and compliance records in accordance with HSPPS, FERPA, HIPAA, and tribal requirements.
• Promote culturally responsive, relationship-based, and inclusive behavioral health practices that support children and families.
• Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, quality improvement initiatives, professional development, and program planning to strengthen behavioral health outcomes.
