Behavioral Health Aide - Multiple Shifts

Schedule: Multiple Available: Full Time and Part Time. Day, Swing, and Grave shift.

Position Summary

 The Behavioral Health Aide continually builds and improves rapport with clients through trauma-informed practices to create a safe, welcoming environment that will offer stabilization and encourage self-sufficiency and independence. Provide and offer basic services and support to move clients toward a healthier lifestyle.

Essential Duties  

• Ensure client safety and support adherence to facility guidelines through attentive monitoring and compassionate engagement through engagement and conducting hourly head counts. 
• Complete all required paperwork, UWITS documentation, and program reporting accurately and in a timely manner. Take vital signs when needed and monitor/document client prescription medications. 
• Support clients with daily living activities in a respectful, empowering manner consistent with their individual treatment plans. 
• Use de-escalation and grounding techniques to assist clients during moments of crisis or distress. Document observations and interventions, including completing the CSSRS when a client reports suicidal ideation. 
• Complete incident reports immediately and coordinate with supervisors or on-call staff to ensure appropriate notification and follow-up. 
• Conduct urine collection for urinalysis when required. 
• Facilitate skills groups as assigned. 
• Attend scheduled staff meetings and training. 
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure proper storage of client information in accordance with licensing and contract requirements. 
• Maintain facility cleanliness and ensure compliance with health, safety, and fire codes. Identify maintenance needs and submit work orders as appropriate. Monitor for contraband.  Support clients in completing daily chores while prioritizing a safe environment and maintaining operational standards. This will handle the kitchen oversight if needed. 
• Seek guidance from the onsite supervisor or on-call system when unusual, serious, or critical incidents occur. 
• Respond appropriately to client requests and collaborate with program staff to support client care, activities, treatment goals, and transportation needs. 
• Answer phones and provide program information as needed. 
• Maintain regular attendance and arrive for scheduled shifts. 

Secondary Duties 

• Maintain positive, professional interactions with community resources including, emergency services, fire, police and sheriff, criminal justice, staff from other community providers, client family members, agency donors, community support groups and referral sources.  
• Provide community resource list or other basic information to clients. 
• Performs other duties as necessary or assigned. 

Qualifications

• Preferred, but not required: High School Diploma or GED. 
• Minimum of 1 year experience in one or more of the following: 
• Residential or Outpatient Treatment. 
• Working with adults with mental illness / substance use disorders. 
• Social Services. 
• Computer literate with familiarity of Microsoft Office - required for client data entry and intake and admission duties. 
• Ability to work efficiently and to switch tasks quickly and successfully . 
• Must work scheduled shifts. (will vary). Reliability to fill shifts and support the team as needed. 
• Ability to uphold professional boundaries, confidentiality regulations, agency policies and procedures. Interact in a professional manner with a diverse workforce, clients, and the public. 
• Willingness to accept supervision and direction. 
• Must be at least 21 years of age, possess a current driver’s license, have a good driving record and be insurable on the agency’s liability policy. 
• Knowledge of Mental Illness and Addiction. 
• Pass a pre-employment drug screen and Utah DHS – Office of Licensing background screening.  
• CPR and First Aid Certification or become certified in the first 30 days. 

Physical Demands 

• Ability to walk up and down stairs and stay on your feet for more than half of your shift. 
• Ability to move around the facility, interacting with clients for extended periods.  May entail using a computer and sit for part of your shift.
