Behavioral Health Peer Advocate

The Staten Island Workforce1 Career Center is partnering with Northwell Health Staten Island University Hospital to find qualified candidates for a Behavioral Health Peer Advocate in Staten Island, New York. Staten Island University Hospital is a 668-bed specialized teaching hospital with two main campuses and numerous community-based health centers and laboratories. As part of Northwell Health, the hospital provides healthcare services to the community and supports patient care through a variety of clinical and community-based programs. The organization is committed to supporting patients and caregivers through comprehensive healthcare services.

The Behavioral Health Peer Advocate collaborates with the treatment team to help implement treatment plans and support individuals during their recovery journey. This role provides peer support, advocacy, recovery services, and case management to clients and caregivers. The position helps participants prepare for discharge from the hospital and reconnect with community-based behavioral health services and resources. The Behavioral Health Peer Advocate serves as a mentor, advocate, ally, and source of encouragement for participants.

This position is located in Staten Island, New York.

• Collaborate with the treatment team to facilitate implementation of treatment plans
• Offer peer support services before discharge and after participants return to their communities
• Provide peer support, advocacy, and recovery services to clients and caregivers
• Develop trusting relationships with participants as a role model, mentor, advocate, and ally
• Communicate hope and encouragement to support participant readiness for discharge and community reintegration
• Provide case management services to identified clients
• Assist individuals with independent living skills, coping skills, and community adjustment
• Connect participants with outpatient behavioral health services and community resources

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Must be certified or working toward certification as a Recovery Peer Advocate
• 1–3 years of relevant experience required
• Ability to provide peer support, advocacy, and recovery services
• Ability to collaborate with a treatment team
