Behavioral Health Therapist 3 Addiction Treatment Services

Inova Behavioral Health Center Fairfax is looking for a dedicated Behavioral Health Therapist III to join the Comprehensive Addiction Treatment Services (CATS) - Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) Merrifield team. Full-time Day Shift: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 12-9pm Tuesday & Friday 8:30-4:30 p.m.

This position is required to be in office 2 days per week.

The Behavioral Health Therapist 3 serves as a clinical leader and demonstrates the ability to assess and diagnose mental health and/or substance use disorders through a bio/psycho/social department specific and evidenced based assessment identifying patient and family goals and needs. Integrates assessments using information related to cultural, clinical, ethnic, age and other factors into the plan of care. Provides a range of therapeutic interventions, psycho-educational programming and behavioral interventions (when indicated) to assist the patient/family in achieving the goals and objectives of the individualized service plan.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Certification - Basic Life Support within 3 months of hire; Crisis Prevention Institute in-person training for non-violent crisis intervention, receive CPI blue card within 6 months of hire, After 9/1/25, Vistelar replaces CPI for new and renewed de-escalation certifications. Approved Clinical Supervisor within 3 months
• Licensure - Upon start: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP), or Licensed Substance Abuse Professional (LSATP) 
• Experience - Five years of experience post licensure in mental health/substance use disorder treatment, psychoeducational programming including targeted, evidence-based interventions (crisis intervention, trauma, and integrative therapies)
• Education - Master's Degree, Ph.D., PsyD, EdD in Mental Health, Social Work, Counseling, Substance Use Disorders or Behavioral Health-related field.

Previous experience working with substance use and/or acute behavioral health patients preferred
