Hiring in 2 Locations: San Jose, CA and Fresno, CA

Position Overview

Child Care Providers United is hiring Benefits Navigators throughout California. Under the supervision of the CCPU Benefits Program Manager, this role strengthens our union by providing high quality, hands-on support to child care providers to access and confidently navigate available benefits through the Health Care, Training, and Retirement funds.

The Benefits Navigator plays a pivotal role by enabling enrollment and long-term access to CCPU benefits. Through their expertise and dedicated support to providers as a frontline educator, activator, and advocate, the Benefits Navigator builds trusting relationships with providers to facilitate utilization of valuable Union-won benefits..

In collaboration with the CCPU Benefits Program Manager, the Provider Resource Center, Union staff, and member leaders; Navigators actively engage providers, coordinate services, and communicate timely information about CCPU programs, benefits, and important updates.

This is a primarily in-person role, with in-state travel required for member meetings, events, and outreach activities.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person support at a physical office to educate providers about CCPU benefits and guide them through enrollment in programs
  • Conduct individualized assessments to understand providers’ needs and develop appropriate support plans
  • Provide hands-on tech support with completing applications, creating online profiles, uploading documents, and navigating benefit portals
  • Educate providers on eligibility requirements, access, and maintaining benefits.
  • Educate providers on how to maintain and expand their benefits
  • Deliver compelling presentations to achieve concrete outcomes at outreach events
  • Maintain accurate records in the CRM database and other tools
  • Qualified individuals may be asked to translate written materials or spoken interpretation during virtual or on-site meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Schedule

Offices are typically open Monday through Friday 9:00am-6:00pm. Irregular hours, including some evenings and weekends may be needed for travel and events to best support child care providers.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in human services, union or community organizing, case management, or direct customer service
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer/technical skills, including average to above-average technical competency and ability to teach new users
  • Proven experience of moving people to action
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders
  • Ability to succeed independently within the context of a plan
  • Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks, and demonstrated experience in developing work plans
  • Valid CA driver’s license, car insurance, and reliable transportation
  • Ability to travel within California on a regular basis, as needed
  • Stable work history, demonstrating reliability and long-term commitment
  • Demonstrated commitment to gender and racial justice, and to organizational equity and inclusion
  • Training or certification in conflict management, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care and/or social emotional learning is beneficial.
  • Multilingual preferred. English plus Spanish (and/or other language)
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours

 

Salary and Benefits

Salary: $78,000 plus excellent benefits including family medical, dental, vision, and retirement. Language differential pay is available to qualified multilingual speakers.
