Job Summary: The Biomedical Equipment Technician II is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of a wide range of moderately complex biomedical equipment and systems used in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients. This role ensures that all medical equipment is functioning safely, effectively, and in compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED. Associate's Degree in Biomed Equipment Technology or related Degree, preferred.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Certification as a Biomedical Equipment Technician. Five Equipment Certifications related to supported units to be approved by leadership. Valid unrestricted driver’s license and proof of insurance.
Work Experience: Minimum 2 years in Hospital environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and other applicable software. Ability to be proficient in the use of hand tools, diagnostic equipment, DVM's, ability to work from service manual, troubleshooting skills, and ability to properly document performed work. Strong knowledge of medical equipment functionality and repair practices. Familiarity with safety standards and regulatory requirements. Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and mechanical skills. Ability to read and interpret schematics, manuals, and technical documentation. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient in the use of CMMS, test equipment, and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Installs, inspects, maintains, and repairs a variety of biomedical equipment and systems with minimal supervision. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and regulatory requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, FDA, NFPA). Accurately document all service activities in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Troubleshoots technical issues and provide timely solutions to minimize equipment downtime. Conducts incoming inspections of new medical devices for safety and functionality. Collaborates with clinical staff to ensure proper equipment operation and usage. Assists with the evaluation and recommendation of new equipment and technologies. Maintains appropriate tools, test equipment, and spare parts inventory. Supports compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and applicable codes. Participates in on-call rotation and respond to emergency service requests as needed. Performs after hours on-call responsibilities as required.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field.
Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal and/or external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Mentor’s junior technicians and provides technical support to clinical staff.
