The Boiler Engineer / Maintenance staff is responsible for maintaining campus heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, with a primary focus on boiler operations. This position works closely with the Maintenance Coordinator to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of campus facilities, equipment, and grounds.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate, inspect, clean, and maintain boilers to ensure safe and efficient performance; recommend repairs, upgrades, and improvements as needed.
- Maintain Univent systems in proper working order; identify and recommend necessary repairs, upgrades, and enhancements.
- Monitor and manage chemical treatment programs for boilers and HVAC systems in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Communicate with the Director of Facilities regarding major repair needs, system issues, or equipment upgrades.
- Support or assume the responsibilities of the Maintenance Coordinator in their absence, as appropriate.
- Perform routine building maintenance and minor repairs across campus facilities.
- Assist with general grounds maintenance, including snow removal and debris clearing from sidewalks, entryways, and parking areas.
- Perform custodial duties as needed, including cleaning up body fluids and cleaning floors, hallways, offices, and common areas.
- Set up and move furniture and equipment for school events and activities.
- Assist with carpet cleaning and floor maintenance (e.g., scrubbing, waxing).
- Support campus security efforts as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS)
- Minnesota Special Boiler License preferred (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Must obtain a Minnesota Class 1C Boiler License within 4 years of hire.
- High school diploma or GED required; related experience or training preferred.
- Basic proficiency with computers, email, and two-way radio systems preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to access and navigate all campus facilities.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, twisting, and lifting required.
- Work environment includes:
- Frequent exposure to mechanical equipment and moderate noise levels.
- Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, chemicals, airborne particles, and outdoor weather.
