Job Description - Breast Care Supervisor 1.0 FTE

FTE/Scheduled Weekly Hours:

1.00 / 40 / 1st Shift (United States of America)

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
The Breast Care Supervisor is a nurse leader who has the skills to deliver high quality evidence-based collaborative care.  Nurse Supervisors possess clinical expertise and administrative accountability for their area/s of responsibility on their assigned shift.  Administrative responsibilities include management of finances, human resources, staffing, performance improvement, technology, and strategy.  The Nurse Supervisor possesses broad based clinical and leadership skills including communication, mentoring, advocacy, systems thinking, critical thinking, accountability of self, peers and staff, and establishment of a healthy work environment.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.    Provides support for the day-to-today operations of assigned clinic(s).
2.    Provides direction to members of the healthcare team, evaluates and enhances the quality and effectiveness of clinical and nursing practice and nursing services. 
3.    Supervises the professional activities of nursing staff and supportive personnel.  Coordinates and directs patient care and ensures patients' needs are met and organizational policy is followed.
4.    Promotes competencies in the roles and functions of patient care team members promoting functioning to full scope of practice. 
5.    Knowledgeable about all department policies, activities, procedures, and processes.
6.    Collects and analyzes comprehensive data pertinent to the issue, situation, or trends and identifies expected outcomes.
7.    Assists with the development, maintenance, and evaluation of organizational systems to support planning and implementation for the delivery of care.  
8.    Systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and delivery of services.  Integrates research findings into practice by creating a supporting environment for knowledge based on nursing research. 
9.    Supports nursing practice in relation to nursing practice standards and guidelines.  
10.    Ensures and maintains compliance with Rural Health Clinic (RHC) and Provider Based Clinic guidelines including completion of the annual RHC evaluations.  Completes cost reporting for assigned clinics and ensures and maintains compliance with CLIA, OSHA, Safety, and Risk Management guidelines.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1.    Cost Awareness:  Contributes to the development of departmental budget. Ensures that budgetary concerns are communicated to Manager as needed.
2.    Employee Performance:  Identifies performance expectations and ensures that employees understand and are held accountable to those expectations. Assesses employee performance in a timely manner and works with employees to resolve performance issues. Takes timely and appropriate disciplinary actions. Acknowledges employee accomplishments.
3.    Organizational Policies:  Communicates and enforces Waverly Health Center policies. With the Manager.   develops policies and procedures essential to the operation of the department in compliance with regulatory requirements.
4.    Staffing: Creates and maintains departmental job descriptions with department Manager. Collaborates with Manager to build a team with diverse skills and strengths by selecting the best candidate for each position. Develops effective staffing patterns to meet departmental needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1.    Education, Experience, and Training

  • Associate degree in nursing with an active Iowa Nursing License
  • Minimum of three years of previous clinic experience preferred.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated organizational abilities and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including the online training modules, the employee timesheet and the performance appraisal system. Job specific systems are also required.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.

2.    Physical Requirements

  • Sitting – Approximately 25% of shift.
  • Standing– Approximately 50% of shift.
  • Walking – Approximately 50% of shift.
  • Lifting – Approximately 35 pounds.  Must use, and require staff to use, when in hospital and/or pre-hospital settings, proper body mechanics and ergonomics and as applicable, lifting/moving devices.
  • Twisting – Infrequent.
  • Bending – Moderate.
  • Squat/Kneel – Approximately 25% of shift.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
1.    May come in contact with hazardous chemicals or treatment modalities.
2.    The possibility exists of exposure to communicable disease due to working in a healthcare environment.
3.    Involvement in patient care may result in unavoidable work-related illnesses.
