Building Operations and Security Director

Responsibilities/Duties:

Building Operations

• Direct the operation, maintenance, and repair of buildings, grounds, and facility systems.


• Oversee preventive maintenance programs for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems.


• Manage facility renovations, construction projects, and capital improvement initiatives.


• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and environmental regulations.


• Develop and manage departmental budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships.


• Monitor facility performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Security and Safety

• Lead all physical security operations, access control systems, surveillance monitoring, and incident response activities.


• Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.


• Act as the primary point of contact for security.


• Own and support the contract of the third party security personnel.


• Investigate security incidents and recommend corrective actions.


• Collaborate with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency management agencies.


• Collaborate with Tamarack Health’s internal Emergency Preparedness Manager and Communications Coordinator for facility safety and security initiatives.


• Promote workplace safety and support a culture of security awareness.

Leadership and Staff Management

• Recruit, develop, and mentor operations and security team members.


• Establish performance expectations and accountability measures.


• Foster cross-functional collaboration with organizational leaders and department managers.


• Lead departmental planning and strategic initiatives aligned with organizational goals.

Education/Experience:

• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Criminal Justice, or a related field; or equivalent experience.


• Progressive leadership experience in facilities operations, security management, healthcare facilities, or a related environment.


• Knowledge of building systems, regulatory compliance, safety standards, and security best practices.


• Strong project management, budgeting, and contract management skills.


• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions:

• A range of motion and dexterity to allow for handling, pushing, pulling and lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds.


• Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.


• Eye hand coordination, finger dexterity, odor, color and texture perception and discrimination, functional visual ability and depth perception, functional sound perception and discrimination and functional verbal speech ability.


• Ability to wear protective equipment.


• Frequent bending, twisting balancing and reaching at or above /below shoulder level as well as kneeling and climbing.


• Ability to respond on irregular hours.
