WAGE: $16.00 PER HOUR NEGOTIABLE NON-EXEMPT


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES


The position is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of children enrolled in the Head Start Program while maintaining compliance with all applicable safety regulations and program standards. In addition to transportation duties, the position supports the overall maintenance and upkeep of the Head Start facility and grounds.


 


This is a non-exempt position at 40 hours/week for 52 weeks/year (negotiable).  Continuation of position is contingent upon funding allocations.


  


STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS


All employees of Stockbridge Munsee Community must meet the following qualification:


1.  Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and health screening.


2.  Must be at least 18 years of age


3.  Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record


4.  Must be able to work weekends, nights, and holidays


5.  Must obtain and maintain Elder/Youth License


 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES



  1. Operate Head Start bus to pick up and deliver children according to standards established by the Head Start Program.

  2. Maintain and observe all safety standards with regards to the vehicle and the conduct of the children entering, riding, and exiting the bus. Conduct required safety evacuation drills per regulations.

  3. Maintain accurate daily mileage and attendance reports.

  4. Perform a daily safety inspection of the vehicle operation systems and report necessary repairs, breakdowns and/or adjustments to the Head Start Manager.

  5. Ensure the bus remains clean (both interior and exterior.) Ensure the first aid kit remains full of necessary supplies to treat minor injuries.

  6. Schedule and complete annual vehicle safety inspection with the Department of Transportation on a regular annual basis.

  7. Maintain Head Start Building and grounds to include building repairs, upkeep of lawns, sidewalks and outdoor walkways includes snow removal.

  8. Assist in daily classroom maintenance and clean-up to include daily mopping, cleaning of restrooms and laundry.

  9. Complete daily outdoor playground safety inspections and address identified safety concerns.

  10. Complete monthly testing of fire and carbon monoxide detectors; monitor fire extinguishers to ensure they are kept in working order.

  11. Practice excellent customer service skills at all times to include, but not limited to, addressing customer, and employee needs courteously and promptly.

  12. Required to attend job related, in-service, meetings, and training to maintain professional and technical knowledge.

  13. Must adhere to tribal law and other applicable laws as well as tribal personnel policies and procedures.

  14. The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position.  The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor.


 


QUALFICATIONS


1.       High School Diploma, HSED Diploma or GED Certification is required. 


2.       A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance are required.  Must obtain a Wisconsin driver’s license within thirty (30) days of employment if applicant has an out-of-state driver’s license.  Must be authorized as eligible to operate a personal and tribal vehicle under the Stockbridge-Munsee Community Vehicle Drivers Policy prior to actual start date.  Must maintain driver’s eligibility as a condition of employment.


3.       Prefer general maintenance experience and/or education.


4.       Excellent customer/client relation skills are required.  This will require the individual to be able to deal with the general public and Tribal employees with tact, courtesy, respect, objectivity, and maturity.


5.       Must be dependable, able to follow directions and work independently with minimal supervision.


6.       Must complete certification on reporting Child Abuse and Neglect within (90) days of employment.


7.       Current First Aid and CPR certifications or willingness to obtain these certifications within (30) days of date of employment is required.  Must maintain CPR and Red Cross First Aide Certification during employment.


8.       Must adhere to strict confidentiality in all matters.  (Must sign a confidentiality statement prior to start of employment.)


9.       Must adhere to the Tribe’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy during the course of employment.  A Tuberculosis (TB) screening and/or TB Skin Test is required prior to employment and annually thereafter.


10.   Must provide written documentation from a doctor that a physical examination was performed within (30) days of employment and annually thereafter.


11.   Must submit and pass a background security check to meet the Employment Eligibility Requirements as it pertains to the position and the location of the department prior to and during the course of employment with the Stockbridge-Munsee Community.  This includes obtaining an elder/youth license.


12.   Must be able to meet physical requirements of position.


13.   Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.


 


All Head Start team members must meet the following physical qualifications:



  1. Frequently sit, bend/stoop, squat, carry and lift up to fifty (50) pounds; occasionally stand, walk, crouch, kneel, balance, and push and pull.

  2. Must be able to spend time out-of-doors in both summer and winter months,

  3. Must be able to use both hands for repetitive movements, simple, and firm grasping.

  4. Must provide written documentation from a doctor that a physical examination was performed within (30) days of employment and annually thereafter.
