Reports To: Café Operations Manager
Haymarket is seeking an organized, quality-driven Café Culinary Supervisor to lead back-of-house (BOH) kitchen operations primarily focused at Haymarket Café.
In this role, you will be instrumental in upholding our standards of culinary quality, workplace safety, and hospitality within the café. Working closely with our culinary directors and management team, you will lead by example on the line, drive daily kitchen efficiencies, train and coach BOH team members, and ensure every guest receives a consistently exceptional dining experience.
BOH Team Leadership & Coaching: Assist in hiring, training, and mentoring Haymarket Café kitchen associates. Cultivate an environment of accountability, continuous learning, and clear feedback to drive performance and retention.
Daily Kitchen Operations: Oversee day-to-day BOH prep, line execution, and closing procedures from start to finish. Conduct accurate daily cycle counts, monitor inventory levels, manage waste, and ensure café labor targets are met.
Culinary & Safety Standards: Ensure strict compliance with all local health department regulations, food safety protocols, and company sanitation standards across all food prep and storage areas.
Menu Execution & Quality Assurance: Ensure all dishes consistently meet recipes, portioning, taste, and presentation standards, keeping pace with current culinary trends and guest preferences.
Operational Planning: Partner with the Director of Operations and Café Operations Manager on daily prep lists, ordering, station assignments, and volume planning.
Administrative Support: Execute administrative kitchen duties, invoice logs, cycle count reconciliations, and daily shift reporting as assigned.
Task & Quality Focused: High standards of accuracy, consistency, and cleanliness, with the initiative to complete tasks thoroughly with minimal supervision.
Lead-by-Example Leadership: A hands-on technical expert who thrives on the line, works alongside subordinates, and models proper culinary technique and pace.
Direct & Factual Communication: Clear, professional, and sincere communication style; decisive in culinary matters while partnering closely with café management.
Process-Driven: Detail-oriented mindset that values standard operating procedures, recipes, and food safety regulations.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of culinary supervisory or kitchen management experience in a high-volume café, restaurant, or fast-casual setting.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of food safety regulations (ServSafe or equivalent preferred), culinary sanitation standards, and modern culinary trends.
Schedule Availability: Open, flexible availability, including early mornings, days, weekends, and holidays according to café operational hours.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a fast-paced commercial kitchen.
Capability to safely lift and carry up to 50+ pounds.
Full physical mobility to bend, reach, and navigate kitchen prep lines safely.
