CAMPUS MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS

General Maintenance | HVAC | Plumbing

Fork Union Military Academy, an all-boys boarding school located in the beautiful central Virginia region near Charlottesville, Richmond, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, is seeking skilled, dependable maintenance professionals to join our Facilities and Maintenance team.

We are currently seeking candidates in General Maintenance, HVAC, and Plumbing. Candidates may be considered for the area that best matches their experience, training, certifications, and qualifications.

Compensation

Pay Range: $15.00–$25.00 per hour

Starting pay within the range will be based on the position, relevant experience, education, skills, qualifications, licenses, and certifications.

Responsibilities

Maintenance team members help maintain Academy buildings, equipment, grounds, and facilities in safe and proper working conditions. Primary responsibilities include:

• Perform general maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance throughout campus.


• Respond to maintenance requests and complete assigned work orders.


• Inspect buildings, equipment, and systems to identify maintenance and repair needs.


• Assist with the installation and repair of equipment, fixtures, appliances, and facility systems.


• Assist with seasonal projects, storm preparation and clean-up, and other campus needs.


• Obtain pricing and assist with purchasing and ordering parts, materials, equipment, and supplies.


• Work cooperatively with Maintenance team members, contractors, vendors, faculty, and staff.


• Follow Academy safety procedures and properly use and maintain tools and equipment.

Specialty Areas:

GENERAL MAINTENANCE

Experience or working knowledge in general building and facility maintenance, including basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical repairs, equipment installation, preventive maintenance, and wastewater treatment systems.

Candidates should be able to assist with a variety of campus facility and utility needs and troubleshoot routine maintenance issues.

HVAC

Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on HVAC systems and related equipment.

EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (Types I, II, and III) required.

PLUMBING

Experience performing skilled plumbing maintenance and repair involving water lines, drains, fixtures, valves, pumps, and related systems.

Active Journeyman Plumber license required; Virginia license preferred.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• General working knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and wastewater treatment systems.


• Effective verbal and written communication skills.


• Basic computer skills, including email, work-order systems, purchasing functions, and other maintenance-related applications.


• Ability to obtain pricing, order materials and supplies, and communicate effectively with vendors.


• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.


• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


• Applicable trade licenses, certifications, or specialized training are preferred for all maintenance positions.


• Valid driver's license.


• Must successfully complete required background checks and participate in the Academy's drug-testing program.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.


• Previous experience in maintenance, facilities, construction, or a related skilled trade preferred.


• Relevant vocational, technical, or trade-school education is preferred.


• Experience in a commercial, institutional, school, or campus environment is a plus.

Schedule & Physical Requirements

The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Some flexibility may be required based on seasonal events, emergencies, or Academy needs.

These positions require the ability to perform physical maintenance work, including standing and walking for extended periods; climbing stairs and ladders; bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, and pulling; and lifting and carrying tools, equipment, and materials. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
