Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologist


Position Summary


Provides anesthesia care for surgical cases involving the heart, lungs, and other thoracic procedures, including cardiopulmonary bypass surgery and a wide range of complex interventions. Procedures include minimally invasive cardiac surgery, robotic-assisted surgery, and multi-stage aortic surgery. This role also supports non-cardiac thoracic procedures such as esophageal resection and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS).


Duties & Responsibilities



  • Administers anesthesia for complex cardiothoracic surgical procedures, including open-heart and bypass surgeries

  • Provides anesthesia support for minimally invasive, robotic, and multi-stage cardiovascular procedures

  • Manages anesthesia care for thoracic surgeries including lung and esophageal procedures

  • Conducts comprehensive pre-anesthesia evaluations and risk assessments

  • Develops and implements individualized anesthesia plans for high-acuity patients

  • Monitors and manages patient vital functions during surgical procedures

  • Responds to intraoperative emergencies and adjusts anesthesia care as needed

  • Collaborates closely with surgeons, perfusionists, and perioperative teams

  • Ensures compliance with clinical protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements

  • Participates in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

  • Maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation



Minimum Qualifications


Education & Experience



  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) from an accredited medical school

  • Completion of an Anesthesiology Residency program

  • Completion of a one (1) year Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship from an accredited institution

  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in cardiothoracic anesthesiology

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Anesthesiology


Licensure & Certification



  • Active and unrestricted Nevada State Medical License

  • Nevada State Pharmacy Board License to prescribe medications

  • DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certificate

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted by the American Heart Association (AHA)

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) accepted by the American Red Cross

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required
