Cell Assembly Technician

Job Description - Cell Assembly Technician

Position Summary

The Cell Assembly Technician supports the safe, consistent assembly of advanced lithium-metal battery cells using a combination of manual and automated manufacturing processes. The technician follows released work instructions, standard operating procedures, equipment requirements, and inspection criteria while maintaining accurate production records and material traceability. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, dependable execution, clear communication, and the judgment to stop and escalate work when a safety, quality, material, or equipment concern is identified.

  • Assemble battery cells in accordance with current released work instructions, standard operating procedures, and approved process parameters.

  • Set up and operate production tools, fixtures, and manual or automated equipment after completing required training and qualification.

  • Perform required pre-use checks and report abnormal equipment conditions, alarms, damage, or downtime; support basic troubleshooting within the limits of training and authorization.

  • Verify material identity, lot status, quantity, and revision before use, and maintain control of work in process to prevent material mix-ups or loss of traceability.

  • Complete in-process and final inspections as specified, including accurate measurement and documentation of required quality characteristics.

  • Identify, label, segregate, and promptly communicate nonconforming material or process conditions to the supervisor and appropriate Quality or Engineering support.

  • Enter production, inspection, scrap, rework, and downtime data accurately and in real time in the designated production systems and records.

  • Follow all environmental, health, and safety requirements, including PPE, ESD controls, material-handling rules, equipment guarding, and stop-work expectations.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inspection-ready work area using 5S practices, established tool locations, and point-of-use material controls.

  • Communicate production status, material shortages, process issues, and schedule risks during shift handoffs and daily team coordination.

  • Support engineering trials, pilot builds, process qualifications, equipment validations, and operator training when assigned and performed under approved documentation.

  • Participate in continuous-improvement activities that strengthen safety, quality, first-pass yield, reliability, material flow, and production efficiency.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Three or more years of manufacturing, production, assembly, or comparable hands-on technical experience preferred.

  • Experience in battery, electronics, aerospace, medical-device, semiconductor, or another high-reliability manufacturing environment is preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed written and verbal instructions, procedures, specifications, and safety requirements in English.

  • Mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand tools, production tools, fixtures, and basic inspection or measurement equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to recognize and communicate deviations, defects, and unusual equipment or process conditions.

  • Basic computer skills and the ability to enter complete, accurate, and timely production data.

  • Ability to perform repetitive precision assembly work while maintaining quality and traceability requirements.

  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently within defined procedures and authorization levels.

  • Dependable attendance and the ability to support changing production priorities in a development and scale-up environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating automated or semi-automated manufacturing equipment.

  • Familiarity with electronic production records, MES or ERP transactions, lot traceability, nonconforming-material controls, and 5S or Lean manufacturing practices.

  • Experience supporting pilot-line builds, new-product introduction, process changes, or equipment qualification activities.

Physical and Work Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.

  • Ability to stand and work at a production station for up to four hours at a time.

  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks requiring manual dexterity, fine motor control, visual inspection, and sustained attention.

  • Ability to wear required PPE and follow requirements for controlled manufacturing areas.
