JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing comprehensive education and support to individuals and their families with diabetes, obesity, and any metabolic/endocrine associated disorder, helping them to manage their condition and achieve their health goals.

· General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels.
· May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights.
· May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms.
· Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.
· May be scheduled as needed including overtime.
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS & DEMANDS:
· Have near normal hearing: Hear alarms/telephone/normal speaking voice.
· Have near normal vision: Clarity of vision (both near and far), ability to distinguish colors.
· Have good manual dexterity.
· Ability to perform repetitive tasks/motion.
· Continuously within shift (67-100%): Standing, Walking.
· Frequently within shift (34-66%): Bending/Stooping, Pushing/Pulling, Lift/carry up to 20lbs, Lift/carry greater than 20 lbs. with assistance.
· Occasionally within shift (1-33%): Sitting, Climbing, Twist at waist, Lift/Carry greater than 50 lbs. with assistance, Reaching above shoulder.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
· Reviews, revises, and participates in the development of the facility’s patient care policies to ensure the inclusion and support of nutritional care.
· Assures that quality procedures are appropriate for collecting and summarizing.
· Recommends suitable clinical and administrative references pertaining to nutrition.
· Collaborates with physicians, mid-levels, and clinical staff to identify and provide appropriate nutritional counseling.
· Establishes treatment plans and communicates with physicians/mid-levels regarding nutrient needs.
· Meets directly with patients to identify educational needs, provide individual instruction, utilize informational handouts/booklets, or refer to community resources as needed.
· Establish priorities, goals and objectives which meet nutritional needs and are consistent with available resources.
· Responsible for corrective action on any deficiencies or recommendations from health agencies. i.e.: Division of Human Resources, DNC, etc.
· Will serve as a liaison to industry representatives to assure that the clinic is properly equipped and utilizing technology inherent in the treatment of patients with diabetes or other applicable conditions.
· May participate in outreach activities as defined through strategic growth initiatives for the practice.
· Perform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.

· Follows Code of Conduct policy.

· Completes annual educational requirements.
· Maintains regulatory requirements.
· Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
· Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
· Wears identification when on duty; uses computerized time clock system correctly.
· Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion.
· Attends annual review and/or skills fair and department in-services, as scheduled.
· Attempts to end conversations and other interactions in a positive manner; leaves others with a good impression of the Hospital Authority of Miller County and its employees.
· Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
· Communicates the mission statement of the organization.

EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
· Active Registered Dietitian (RD) in Georgia or Active Registered Nurse (RN) License in Georgia (includes nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists)
· B.S. Degree in Foods and Nutrition or Advanced degree in nursing, nutrition, or a related field.
· Successful completion of Dietetic Training Program with six months experience under a registered dietitian. Preferred 2 years of professional general practice experience.
· Eligible for registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
· Experienced and knowledgeable in clinical and administrative dietetics.
· Effective writing and speaking skills.
· Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) certification preferred. The Hospital Authority of Miller County will assist you in working towards this certification if RN does not hold current CDE certification.
· Active American Heart Association BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
