Qualifications
Active Kentucky Certified Medication Aide I (CMA I) certification in good standing, per 201 KAR 20:700.
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum age 18.
Prior experience working with children or adolescents in a residential, behavioral health, or healthcare setting preferred.
Successful completion of required background checks, including KRS 199.642 child-safety clearance.
Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team.
Reliable transportation; ability to work at either OneQuest Health PRTF campus as scheduling requires.
Position Summary
The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) is a member of OneQuest Health's nursing and residential care team, responsible for the safe and accurate administration of medication to residents of OneQuest Health's Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) program, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and in support of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The CMA plays a critical role in ensuring the 36 adolescent residents served across OneQuest Health's Burlington and Covington campuses receive prescribed medications safely, accurately, and on schedule, in accordance with Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) regulations and OneQuest Health clinical policy.
Essential Job Duties
Medication Administration
Administer medications to residents in accordance with physician orders, facility policy, and KBN regulations governing certified medication aides, under the direct supervision of the RN.
Prepare, pour, and administer medications following the rights of medication administration (right resident, medication, dose, route, time, and documentation).
Observe residents for effectiveness, side effects, or adverse reactions following medication administration, and report findings immediately to the supervising RN/LPN.
Maintain proper storage, security, and disposal of medications in accordance with facility policy and regulatory requirements.
Documentation and Compliance
Accurately document all medication administration in the Medication Administration Record (MAR) and resident chart.
Maintain medication administration records consistent with 902 KAR 20:320 and KBN documentation standards.
Respond appropriately to medication errors or incidents, following facility protocol and incident reporting requirements.
Maintain resident confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
Support to Nursing Team
Assist the LPN and RN with medication-related tasks, including inventory, reordering, and coordination with pharmacy as directed.
Communicate effectively with nursing staff, direct care staff, and the clinical team regarding resident medication needs and changes in condition.
Participate in nurse-led training, competency evaluations, and delegation reviews as required under KBN delegation standards.
Resident Care and Program Support
Support a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for adolescent residents consistent with OneQuest Health's trauma-informed care approach.
Interact with residents ages 7–14 in a manner appropriate to their developmental and clinical needs.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Attend required trainings and provide trainings as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising RN or Residential Services leadership.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, kneel, squat, and hold or carry objects.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
