Job Description - Certified Nurse Midwife/Women

Job Title: Certified Nurse Midwife/Women's Health Provider


Reports To: Director of Advanced Practice – Adult and Family Medicine


Job Summary: The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) / Women's Health Provider provides and manages a high standard of comprehensive women's healthcare services across the lifespan. This position focuses on preventive gynecologic care, reproductive health, family planning, contraceptive management, health promotion, and office-based gynecologic procedures. The CNM collaborates with healthcare providers, nursing staff, and community partners to deliver patient-centered, evidence-based care while promoting wellness, disease prevention, and positive health outcomes.



This is a per diem position with an anticipated schedule of approximately 8 hours per week, subject to patient volume, organizational needs, and provider availability.



Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnostic evaluations of laboratory tests, imaging studies, and other diagnostic procedures within scope of practice

  • Provides preventive and well-woman care, including annual examinations, cervical cancer screenings, breast health assessments, menopausal care, and health promotion counseling

  • Provides contraceptive counseling and management, helping patients select and utilize appropriate family planning methods

  • Performs birth control procedures within scope of practice, including insertion and removal of long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) such as intrauterine devices (IUDs) and contraceptive implants

  • Performs colposcopies and endometrial biopsies in accordance with clinical guidelines and organizational policies

  • Diagnoses and manages common gynecologic conditions and reproductive health concerns within scope of practice

  • Prescribes pharmaceuticals, contraceptives, and other treatment regimens as appropriate

  • Refers patients to specialists and other healthcare resources as clinically indicated

  • Directs and coordinates patient care activities of nursing staff, care coordinators, medical assistants, and support staff

  • Ensures completion of patient follow-up tasks, laboratory reviews, imaging reviews, referrals, and required documentation in a timely and efficient manner

  • Maintains accurate patient records and provides appropriate billing and coding documentation.

  • Participates in health promotion, education, and prevention programs

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review activities, and provider collaboration

  • Assists in facilitating training and mentorship to improve and advance the professional skills and competence of clinical support staff



  • Participates in the education of clinical students, community partners, and healthcare trainees in accordance with CCHCI educational programs



Required Minimum Qualifications - Education, Experience, Certificates & Licenses:



  • Graduate degree from an accredited Nurse Midwifery program

  • Current Arizona licensure as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)

  • Current certification as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) through the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)

  • Current Arizona prescribing authority and DEA registration, as required

  • Current CPR certification

  • Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the necessary skills required may be considered

  • Participation in continuing education programs as necessary to maintain professional licensure and certification

  • Driver's License and Proof of Insurance may be required if requesting mileage reimbursement

  • Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card required



Preferred Qualifications - Education, Experience, Certificates & Licenses:



  • Two (2) years of women's health, gynecology, family planning, or midwifery experience preferred

  • Experience performing colposcopies, endometrial biopsies, and contraceptive device insertion and removal

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred



Required Language Skills:



  • Ability to comprehend and compose effective instructions, correspondence, and communications in English in both oral and written format

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, internal providers and staff and other agency personnel

  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel



Physical Requirements:



  • Ability to occasionally exert enough force to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds

  • Ability to continuously remain in a stationary position

  • Ability to constantly move about inside the workplace to assist patients and operate office or medical equipment

  • Possesses hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to constantly operate computers, telephones, and medical equipment

  • Possesses close visual acuity necessary to accurately review and document patient information

  • Ability to discern the nature of sounds at a normal spoken volume

  • Possesses range of body motion and ability to assist patients as necessary during examinations and procedures


Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Knowledge of current principles, methods, and procedures for women's health, gynecologic care, reproductive health, and family planning

  • Knowledge of evidence-based preventive healthcare practices across the lifespan

  • Knowledge of contraceptive methods, counseling techniques, and reproductive health services

  • Ability to perform office-based gynecologic procedures, including colposcopies, endometrial biopsies, and contraceptive device placement and removal

  • Knowledge of relevant pharmaceuticals and treatment modalities related to women's health

  • Ability to skillfully gather and analyze clinical data

  • Ability to perform a variety of assignments and make decisions requiring considerable independent judgment

  • Ability to resolve challenges and work effectively under pressure

  • Displays a high level of critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of HIPAA and Corporate Compliance rules and regulations

  • Knowledge of community health center operations and healthcare plans

  • Computer literacy required

  • Ability to employ motivational techniques to train, mentor, and lead staff

  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and workshops

  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities, use time efficiently, and develop realistic action plans



Work Environment & Conditions:



  • Work environment is typical of a health clinic setting with occasional exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and hazardous chemicals

  • Work occasionally involves the use of medical instruments, needles, and other clinical equipment

  • Work requires reliable transportation, as the position may require occasional travel and extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends

  • Work requires the ability to be contacted by cell phone during or outside regular work hours
