Responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department and following infection control practices.
Responsibilities
Runs biological and chemical tests at beginning of day and records in appropriate log. Runs test packs sterilizer load and records results.
Receives and cleans soiled instruments and other usable patient supply items in decontamination area. Assembles packages and sterilizes all instruments and equipment.
Sorts all sterile items, stores in proper place, and organizes sterile supplies. Complies with PPE requirements.
Effective and efficient use of equipment, supplies and people. Identifies inefficiencies and inaccuracies, responding appropriately. Actively participates in departmental/facility PI activities. Works to ensure the department meets regulatory standards.
Provides services to other areas of hospital and keeps logs. Acts as a resource and provides education on sterilization to hospital.
Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
Required:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience: Up to 1 year of work experience required.
Certifications/Registrations/Licenses:
Sterile Processing certification required through IAHCSMM or CBSPD.
American Heart Association BLS CPR certification required.
