Position Summary The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a senior executive responsible for overseeing the financial strategy, planning, and management of the company. In a solar company, the CFO plays a critical role in project finance, cash flow management, tax incentives (ITC), regulatory compliance, and supporting scalable growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
Develop and execute the company’s financial strategy aligned with business goals and growth plans
Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive leadership team
Provide financial insights to support decision-making, investments, and expansion
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
Analyze financial performance, margins, and project profitability
Prepare financial models for solar projects, acquisitions, and financing
Project Finance & Capital Management
Lead solar project financing, including debt, equity, tax equity, and PPA structures
Manage relationships with banks, investors, tax equity partners, and lenders
Optimize cash flow across construction, installation, and interconnection phases
Accounting & Compliance
Ensure accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards
Oversee accounting, payroll, AP/AR, and internal controls
Manage audits, tax filings, and financial risk management
Tax Credits & Incentives
Oversee federal, state, and local solar incentives, including the Investment Tax Credit (ITC)
Ensure proper documentation and compliance for incentive programs
Coordinate with tax advisors and legal counsel
Operational & Cost Management
Monitor installation costs, labor, materials, and overhead to maintain profitability
Implement systems and processes to improve financial efficiency
Support pricing strategy and contract review
Team & Systems Leadership
Build and manage the finance, accounting, and payroll teams
Oversee financial systems, ERP software, and reporting tools
Establish scalable processes to support company growth
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred)
8–15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience
Experience in solar, renewable energy, construction, or project-based industries strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of project finance, tax equity, and capital structures
Proven experience managing cash flow in a high-growth environment
Skills & Competencies
