The Charge Registered Nurse (RN) effectively leads the patient care team to achieve optimal patient outcomes during their assigned shift. This position assumes responsibilities as delegated by the Unit Director, including direction, supervision, and delegation of clinical and non-clinical responsibilities to staff. The Charge RN facilitates effective communication and timely resolution of operational issues that support Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville in achieving its strategic initiatives and departmental goals.
In addition to meeting all standards required of a Staff RN, the Charge RN serves as a professional role model, consistently exceeding Standards of Performance and promoting an environment of excellence. Working collaboratively with the Unit Director, Unit Manager, and other members of the leadership team, the Charge RN maintains accountability for the quality and safety of nursing care delivered on the unit, providing direct patient care as needed and overseeing the care provided by other nursing personnel. The Charge RN coordinates patient assignments and flow, mentors and supports staff through orientation and ongoing education, participates in performance evaluation, and assists in the planning and management of unit resources to ensure efficient and effective delivery of care. Demonstrating strong leadership, the Charge RN fosters teamwork, facilitates conflict resolution, and upholds open communication among staff, physicians, patients, and families. This role ensures adherence to hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practices, while modeling professional behavior that reflects the mission, vision, and values of Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville
• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited program required.
• Current unrestricted RN license by the Kentucky Board of Nursing or compact state license.
• BLS required.
• ACLS and PALS or ENPC preferred within 3 months, required within 6 months of hire.
• NIH Stroke Scale Certification required within 3 months of hire.
• TNCC recommended within 2 years of hire.
• CEN or board certification in specialty recommended within 5 years of hire.
• Avade Workplace Violence Prevention (Level III) required within 3 months of hire or transfer and maintained annually (training provided in-house).
