Chemical Technician

Job Summary     

Operate all chemical testing equipment necessary to perform the Chemical Technician (Addman) role for the day to day electroplating operations, along with any other operations (Glass Seal, Alum Chromate, Phoscoat, etc) deemed necessary or assigned. Perform all required monitoring, testing and quality checks and ensure all are accurate and documented accordingly in order to ensure an acceptable, quality product.

Responsibilities and Duties           

• Operate equipment and perform required duties and be familiar with all safety, environmental, and emergency procedures for equipment in that functional area.
• Perform quantitative analysis for Soak Clean (%), Electroclean (%), Acid (%) and Plating Bath (pH, Chlorides, Iron), Trivalent Chromates - Clear, Gold, Black and Red, (pH, temp and %), Glass Seal (temp and %). Document as required
• Know and understand reactionary procedures for any deviation and/or out of a normal operating range, High/Low pH readings, excessive iron, copper, etc.
• Responsible for proper care of equipment
• Perform and document all checks at required intervals
• Calibrate/Clean pH probes and document as required
• Perform preventive maintenance – backwash Sandfilters and document as required
• Move all spent barrels to proper location for rinsing 
• Perform visual observations on concentrated chemical containers (drums, totes, etc) for leaks, low quantities, etc. 
• Monitor electroplate line tanks for proper operating level, adjust as necessary
• Assist with operations of the electroplating lines such as, but not limited to: Box Ovens, Tub Staging, Tub Loading, Line operation during breaks/lunches, Dryer operations and Thickness Testing of product
• Properly place all incoming chemicals and zinc balls in appropriate areas on day of arrival
• All departmental Safety and Environmental training shall always be kept current 
• Know how to safely handle all chemicals involved for your job duties
• HazWopper (Hazardous waste and emergency response) required.
• Keep work area safe, clean and orderly
• Wear all safety equipment as required
• Ensure that all work activities are performed in accordance with established safety and environmental standards.
• Maintains full compliance and conducts all activities in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications   

• High school graduate or equivalent.  Relevant experience will be considered in lieu of education.
• Internal - Previous experience in a Plating role.
• External - Minimum (2) years’ experience in role using basic math skills. 

• Should have a basic knowledge of chemistry

• Must have meticulous recordkeeping skills

• Have a complete and thorough knowledge in the operation of any electroplating line in the department

• Know and understand shutdown procedures for electroplate operations

• Know and understand emergency shutdown procedures, especially if a non-scheduled power outage occurs

• Must be able to read charts and graphs and follow instructions closely

• Must have working knowledge of measuring equipment and accurately weigh and mix chemicals per instructions

• Must be able to operate Forklift

• Must be able to read, write and do simple math

• Must have mechanical aptitude and ability 
• Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
