Job Description - Chemistry and Environmental Science Teacher

Position Overview:



We are seeking a high school science teacher with a passion for teaching foundational Chemistry or Environmental Science and creating engaging learning opportunities.TSAS is a free public charter school with small class sizes that prioritizes innovation and teacher autonomy. Applicants should be enthusiastic about experimentation, student-centered instruction, project-based learning, building strong relationships, and developing equitable success strategies to serve all students.



Applicants should be able to provide evidence via the interview process of:




  • Strong subject area knowledge

  • Experience developing, and/or willingness to develop pedagogical skill and relational classroom management strategies

  • Growth mindset that positions students as the center of the work of teaching and learning and desires to disrupt systems of oppression and close achievement gaps via public education.

  • Enthusiasm for learning and implementing innovative instructional approaches including project-based learning.



Applicants should discuss in their cover letter their areas of Chemistry expertise or Environmental Science expertise and previous experience in innovative instruction.

Qualifications:




  • Bachelor’s degree is required, while a degree in education, science, or a related field is preferred

  • Teaching certification or licensure is preferred but not required

  • Strong knowledge of many dimensions of scientific concepts and practices

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Passion for teaching and a commitment to student success

  • Proficiency in educational technology and digital learning tools



Working Conditions:



Teachers typically work indoors in a classroom and lab setting, with regular opportunities for hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and occasional outdoor or experiential learning activities. This role may involve standing for extended periods, facilitating lab activities, interacting with students and colleagues, and attending meetings or professional development sessions outside of regular school hours.
