The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE
Provides administrative leadership for all staff CRNAs. Staff CRNAs provide anesthesia services to patients of all ages at Strong Memorial Hospital under the medical direction of members of the faculty of the Department of Anesthesiology of the University of Rochester Medical Center. With the assistance of the Associate Chief(s), and Assistant Chief, and delegating specific aspects of the duties below as appropriate, the Chief CRNA will ensure the completion of the following duties and responsibilities:

Leadership & Training:

  • Orients new CRNAs to the department; completes initial competency review.
  • In collaboration with Department Chair, leads recruitment efforts for new CRNA staff. Leades dynamic recruitment of CRNAs to maintain adequate staffing patterns, schedule structured and thoughtful interview experiences, and follow up with recruits to answer questions and provide feedback.
  • Brings CRNA concerns to the attention of Chief Clinical Coordinator and serves as sounding board when problems arise. 
  • Coordinates annual reviews for CRNAs. Performs in-person feedback.
  • Provides agenda items for regular meetings with Chair and Program Administrator including requests from the CRNA group. Attends and co-leads meeting.
  • With Vice Chair for Education, selects and supervises coordinators for rotating SRNAs.
  • Serve as Crew Chief “CC” to be a point person for the CRNAs and assist with day-to-day OR choreography.

Mentorship:

  • Serves as coach and advisor to all CRNAs and SRNAs as well as nurses interested in continuing their professional career as a future CRNA

Scheduling:

  • Develops and oversees a fair, reasonable and transparent system to schedule CRNAs to work off shifts (e.g. 3-11) and to provide coverage for residents on occasions such as graduation weekend and during residents’ exams.
  • Oversees and assists with any scheduling changes needed to accommodate OR needs.
  • Organizes and schedules CRNA shadows for interested ICU nurses. Works with administration to approve paperwork for non-employee shadows.

Communication:

  • Communicates updates, changes, and issues to the CRNA group.
  • Functions as main point of contact for CRNAs and liaison to Department Leadership.
  • Schedules regular meetings of CRNA group.
  • Communicates with locum companies as needed to ensure staffing needs are met.
  • Communicates regularly with all members of departmental leadership.
  • Communicates with perioperative nursing leadership to identify areas of improvement with staff communication, physical obstructions in the OR, or surgical staffing concerns.
  • Communicates with Human Resource Business Partner as needed to ensure compliance with hospital policies.

Administrative:

  • Completes and submits paperwork to AANA for prior approval of CEU credits for Thursday morning conferences.  Handles all paperwork necessary for obtaining CEU credits.  This includes collecting signatures weekly for Strong and from Sawgrass, collating the signatures, and e-mailing the totals to the AANA.  In general, the chief should be responsible for this activity at one location (SMH/Sawgrass) and the Associate should be responsible at the other.
  • Completes forms as required for CRNA and sRNA credentialing.
  • Ensures there are supplies in the CRNA office.
  • Diligently participates in the Executive Committee and Anesthesia & Peri-Operative Services Committee to ensure understanding of all areas and monitor changes to clinical practice.
  • Completes Workday and UKG compensation and time approval for all CRNAs.
  • Attends weekly and bi-weekly meetings or delegate to another participant to ensure our role is present
  • Meets regularly with leadership (chair, vice chair and finance director) to review department finances, needs, workflow and efficiencies. 
  • Reviews annual market analysis to maintain a competitive compensation package.
  • Ensures all CRNAs maintain compliance in annual health updates, MyPath and POCT courses and BLS/ACLS/PALS recertification.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing required
  • Graduate of a school of nurse anesthesia, accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (Dept. of H.E.W. authorized accrediting agent) required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Current A.A.N.A. membership, active practicing category required


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • CRNA - Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist upon hire required
