Provides emotional support, education, and coping strategies to help children and families navigate medical experiences. Utilize developmentally appropriate play, preparation, and therapeutic interventions to reduce stress and promote understanding of hospitalization and medical procedures. Provides a variety of direct and indirect patient care, unit, and environmental tasks.
Principal Accountabilities:
-Provides developmentally appropriate Child Life services addressing the impact
of illness, injury, and hospitalization on children and families.
-Designs and implements group activities that promote coping and
normalization.
-Plans and delivers individualized interventions based on healthcare
experiences.
-Supports families in understanding hospital procedures and maintaining their
parenting role during hospitalization.
-Maintains accurate records, statistics, schedules, and documentation.
Bachelor's degree in child Life or related field required
Master's degree in child Life or related field preferred
1-2 years related experience preferred.
Child Life Certification completed requirements required.
Child Life certification preferred.
If not certified, must maintain eligibility with plans to take the examination within one
year of hire.
Strong understanding of child development and family systems.
Ability to assess coping needs and tailor interventions to individual
developmental levels.
Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills with children,
families, and interdisciplinary teams.
Capacity to establish rapport and provide emotional support in stressful or
crisis situations.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize
in a fast paced healthcare setting.
Cultural sensitivity and ability to support diverse populations.
Skill in facilitating group activities and events that promote normalization and
socialization.
Ability to document interventions and maintain accurate patient records.
Flexibility, creativity, and initiative in developing child and family centered
programs.
