What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The target salary range for this position is $23.89 – $29.86. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. This position requires on-site work at the Richard T. Castro Building (1200 N. Federal Blvd.) three (3) days per week, totaling 24 hours, from 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. The remaining two days (16 hours) may be worked remotely within the state of Colorado. One of the weekly on-site days must be Wednesday.

During training, you will work on-site four days per week from 8:00 a.m.– 4:30 p.m., with schedules adjusted as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

Division of Economic Security:  
Through our Economic Security Division (ESD), Denver Human Services seeks to engage residents in strengthening economic well-being and mobility across their lifespan. By leveraging the resources of Denver Human Services’ programs and a network of community partnerships, Economic Security provides a holistic approach to service delivery in order to assist customers in the ability to foresee crisis as well as adapt to and leverage changing life conditions to their advantage.  

Denver Human Services is currently seeking highly skilled applicants for the position of Child Support Technician II within the Modifications Team. Working with multiple partners, CSS strives to promote parental responsibility so that children receive support from both parents, even when they live in separate households. Nationally, the child support program is one of the largest income-support programs for families, contributing money to family budgets to help pay for the basics: shelter, food, childcare, transportation, and school clothes. Child support makes a big difference to children, and we strive to provide family centered services that incorporate innovative strategies that improve the reliability of child support payments. It takes a dedicated team of professionals to execute these programs with passion, empathy, and poise.

The Child Support Technician II:

• Perform technical and legal work by following an administrative or judicial process to provide services to clients involving the modification of child support obligations
• Work closely with City Attorneys and the judicial system to modify medical and financial support orders to ensure that they are "right-sized" and accurately reflect the parent's current ability to financially support their children
• Income & Expense Review: Collects and analyzes financial affidavits and information, tax returns, pay stubs and any additional relevant information needed for case documentation through various means to determine if a significant change in income or circumstance has occurred to initiate the modification process.
• State Guidelines Calculation: Calculates updated support obligations using state-mandated guidelines and tables to ensure fair financial and medical support.
• Document Preparation: Drafts legal documents pertinent to cases including but not limited to modifications, motions, docket preparation, special entry of appearance, and notice of hearings. Prepares cases for court hearings by organizing case files to include relevant documents for attorneys and testifies when needed at hearings
• Negotiation & Mediation: Communicates with obligors (payers) and obligees (recipients) to explain child support modification services, processes and requirements as well as explaining mediation/negotiation of pay amounts and plans, stipulations, and settlements
• Case Management: Maintains accurate records in state databases, monitors compliance, and collaborates with legal team for ongoing actions that may be needed.
• This position may be required to participate in community outreach events and/or work in alternate city locations dependent on the business need

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
• Experience: Four (4) years of experience performing child support initiation, enforcement, collections, investigations, case management or a related field.
• Education & Experience Equivalency Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
