About the Role

 

The Grand Rapids Downtown Market is home to the Christkindl Markt, one of the Midwest's premier holiday traditions, welcoming hundreds of thousands of guests each season.



We are seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and hospitality-minded Beverage Pourers to support bar operations and provide exceptional beverage service. Beverage Pourers prepare drinks, maintain supplies, keep bar areas clean and organized, and help ensure efficient service throughout the event.



Working closely with Bartenders, Bar Supervisors, and other event staff, you'll help keep beverage service moving while contributing to a welcoming and festive guest experience.

Essential Responsibilities

 

Beverage Preparation & Bar Support


  • Listen to beverage orders communicated by Bar Servers and accurately prepare requested drinks.

  • Place completed beverages on the bar for Bar Servers to provide to guests after payment is received.

  • Follow established training and service guidelines to ensure accuracy and consistency.

  • Develop knowledge of beer, wine, and other Christkindl Markt beverage offerings.

  • Stock and stage beverages, glassware, and supplies to support efficient service.

  • Monitor product and supply levels and proactively communicate restocking needs.


Organization & Cleanliness


  • Maintain clean, organized, and stocked bar stations throughout each shift.

  • Assist with preparing, staging, cleaning, and maintaining bar areas.

  • Follow all applicable sanitation, safety, and operational procedures.

  • Maintain awareness when moving products and supplies through busy event areas.


Teamwork & Operations


  • Work closely with Bartenders, Bar Supervisors, and other event staff to support smooth operations.

  • Communicate promptly when supplies, products, or additional support are needed.

  • Anticipate team needs and assist during high-volume periods.

  • Adapt to changing priorities and assist with additional event duties as needed.

  • Assist with additional event duties as needed.


Qualifications & Experience


  • Minimum of one year of barbacking, event, hospitality, or related experience required.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Strong teamwork, communication, organization, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

  • Dependable, proactive, and willing to learn and follow established procedures.

  • Ability to anticipate needs, take initiative, and adapt to changing operational demands.

  • Comfortable working in indoor and outdoor environments, including kitchen, cooler, storage, and winter conditions.

  • Positive, professional attitude and commitment to exceptional guest experiences.


Physical Requirements

 

This is an active, hands-on position requiring the ability to:


  • Stand and walk throughout the duration of a shift.

  • Move safely between bar areas, indoor kitchens, coolers, storage areas, and outdoor event spaces.

  • Regularly lift or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.

  • Stock, stage, prepare, clean, and maintain bar stations.

  • Bend, reach, squat, twist, and perform other movements necessary for job duties.

  • Work in changing indoor and outdoor temperatures, including Michigan winter conditions.

  • Wear required uniform components, including the provided hat and jacket.


Schedule & Work Environment

 

This is a part-time, temporary seasonal position supporting the Christkindl Markt during the holiday season.



The position involves working in an active, outdoor-focused event environment, including bar areas, indoor kitchens, coolers, storage spaces, and outdoor event locations. Conditions may include cold weather, inclement winter conditions, changing temperatures, varying noise levels, crowded event areas, and exposure to dust, dirt, grease, pollen, mold, and other airborne contaminants.



Team members are expected to:


  • Arrive prepared and on time for scheduled shifts.

  • Accurately record hours worked and use work time efficiently.

  • Remain engaged and productive throughout each shift.

  • Demonstrate flexibility as guest volumes and operational needs change.

  • Wear provided uniform components, including a hat, jacket, identification, and other required items.
