About the Role
The Grand Rapids Downtown Market hosts the Christkindl Markt, a beloved holiday tradition welcoming hundreds of thousands of guests each season for shopping, food, entertainment, and festive experiences.
We are seeking dependable, enthusiastic, and hospitality-minded First Impressions Staff to help maintain a clean, safe, welcoming, and guest-ready market. Working closely with the Christkindl Markt General Manager and event team, you'll assist guests, maintain indoor and outdoor spaces, support opening and closing procedures, and help ensure the Markt looks its best throughout each event day.

Essential Responsibilities
Guest Service & Market Presentation
Welcome guests, provide directions, answer questions, and assist with guest needs.
Maintain clean, orderly, and welcoming tables, seating areas, walkways, and gathering spaces.
Monitor outdoor décor and guest-facing areas to maintain a festive, polished appearance.
Identify and address safety concerns, including snow, ice, trip hazards, and walkway conditions.
Communicate operational or safety issues to the appropriate team members.
Opening Responsibilities
- Check power and turn over trash cans.
- Prepare s and outdoor guest areas.
- Unlock and clean the outdoor restroom trailer.
- Remove garbage, clean tables and chairs, and prepare seating areas.
- Shovel snow, salt walkways, and address outdoor safety concerns as needed.
Closing Responsibilities
- Remove garbage and bring dirty dishes and rags to the back-of-house dish area.
- Break down bar cardboard and transport it to the loading dock.
- Latch gates and clean tables, seating areas, and floors.
- Mop, restock, and secure the outdoor restroom trailer.
General Event Support
- Move throughout indoor and outdoor market areas to identify and respond to needs.
- Follow established procedures and training while exercising good judgment.
- Assist with additional event operations and support duties as needed.
- Work independently while maintaining communication and collaboration with the event team.

Qualifications & Experience
- At least 1–2 years of customer service, hospitality, or event experience.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Friendly, approachable, professional, and guest-focused attitude.
- Proactive, safety-minded, and attentive to cleanliness and presentation.
- Ability to work independently, manage changing priorities, and follow established procedures.
- Willingness to work outdoors in Michigan winter weather and assist with hands-on opening and closing tasks.
- Commitment to teamwork, reliability, and a positive, solutions-focused work environment.
Physical Requirements
This is an active position requiring the ability to:
- Stand and walk for prolonged periods throughout an entire shift.
- Move safely throughout indoor and outdoor market areas.
- Regularly lift or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
- Shovel snow, salt walkways, and perform other outdoor maintenance tasks.
- Bend, reach, squat, twist, and handle cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment.
- Work in changing temperatures, including cold outdoor conditions and cooler or storage areas.
- Wear required uniform components, including provided hats and identification.
Schedule & Work Environment
This is a part-time, temporary seasonal position during the holiday season. The role is primarily outdoors, with occasional work inside market areas. Employees must arrive on time, accurately record hours worked, use work time efficiently, and remain flexible as event needs change. Opening and closing responsibilities will be assigned as needed.
Working conditions may include:
- Cold temperatures, snow, and inclement winter weather.
- Changing indoor and outdoor temperatures.
- Pollen, mold, dust, dirt, grease, and other airborne contaminants.
- Commercial cleaning products.
- Busy, crowded, and high-energy event environments with varying noise levels.
