Christkindl Markt Info Booth / Curling Host
About the Role
The Grand Rapids Downtown Market hosts the Christkindl Markt, a beloved holiday tradition welcoming hundreds of thousands of guests each season for shopping, food, entertainment, and festive experiences.
We are seeking outgoing, dependable, and hospitality-minded Info Booth / Curling Hosts to help guests navigate and enjoy the Christkindl Markt.
This is a dual-role position. Team members will be trained and expected to rotate between the Info Booth Host and Curling Host assignments throughout their employment. Depending on operational needs, you may assist guests at the Info Booth, manage curling reservations and activities, welcome entertainers, or support other event operations.
You'll work closely with the General Manager, Manager on Duty, reservations team, entertainers, and other event staff to create a welcoming, safe, and memorable guest experience.

Essential Responsibilities
1. Info Booth Host Responsibilities
- As an Info Booth Host, you'll serve as a primary guest resource, helping visitors navigate the Markt and make the most of their experience.
- Welcome guests, answer questions, and provide directions throughout the Markt.
- Maintain knowledge of market amenities, activities, reservations, entertainment, and event information.
- Help guests locate vendors, activities, restrooms, and other destinations.
- Check in reservations and collect required signed waivers as assigned.
- Provide accurate information and assistance in a friendly, professional manner.
- Keep the Info Booth clean, organized, stocked, and ready for guests.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures for the booth and communicate guest concerns or operational needs to the appropriate team member.
2. Curling Host Responsibilities
- As a Curling Host, you'll help prepare, manage, and maintain the curling experience to ensure guests can participate safely and enjoyably.
- Prepare and maintain curling sheets and related activity areas.
- Support curling reservations, guest check-ins, and waiver collection as assigned.
- Welcome participants, explain activity procedures, and provide assistance throughout their experience.
- Monitor the curling area for cleanliness, organization, and potential safety concerns.
- Help ensure the curling space is ready for reservations and remains welcoming throughout the event.
- Communicate safety, equipment, power, or operational concerns promptly to the Manager on Duty or appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with opening, closing, and general maintenance of the curling area.
3. General Event & Team Support
- Rotate between Info Booth and Curling Host assignments as directed by event leadership.
- Welcome entertainers and help connect them with the appropriate team members.
- Manage background music as assigned and report sound or power issues to the Manager on Duty.
- Monitor walkways and guest areas for trip hazards, snow, ice, and other safety concerns; take action or report issues promptly.
- Assist with setup, breakdown, and additional event operations as needed.
- Follow established procedures, communicate clearly, and support a positive, collaborative team environment.
- Assist with additional event duties as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- At least 1–2 years of customer service, hospitality, or event experience.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must hold a current TIPS Michigan On-Premise Alcohol Server Certificate or successfully complete the required online TIPS training before the Christkindl Markt opens on November 18. Training will be provided.
- Friendly, outgoing, and comfortable interacting with guests of all ages.
- Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage reservations, waivers, guest questions, and competing priorities accurately.
- Comfortable switching between Info Booth and Curling Host duties throughout a shift.
- Proactive, safety-minded, and able to recognize when issues need to be escalated.
- Ability to work independently, follow established procedures, and remain calm in a busy environment.
- Dependable, flexible, and committed to teamwork and a positive guest experience.
Physical Requirements
This is an active position requiring the ability to:
- Stand and walk for prolonged periods throughout an entire shift.
- Move safely throughout indoor and outdoor market areas.
- Assist with preparing and maintaining curling sheets and activity areas.
- Regularly lift or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
- Bend, reach, squat, and handle activity materials, tools, and supplies.
- Shovel snow, apply salt, and assist with clearing walkways as needed.
- Work in changing temperatures, including outdoor winter conditions and cooler or storage areas.
- Wear required uniform components, including provided hats and identification.
Schedule & Work Environment
This is a part-time, temporary seasonal position during the holiday season. Employees must arrive on time, accurately record hours worked, use work time efficiently, and remain flexible as event needs change.
Team members must be prepared to perform opening, operating, and closing responsibilities and rotate between the Info Booth and Curling Host assignments as scheduled.
The position is primarily outdoors, with occasional work inside market areas. Conditions may include:
- Cold temperatures, snow, and inclement winter weather.
- Changing indoor and outdoor temperatures.
- Pollen, mold, dust, dirt, grease, and other airborne contaminants.
- Commercial cleaning products.
- Busy, crowded, high-energy event environments with varying noise levels.
- Required uniform components, including hats and identification, must be worn.
