Provide technical expertise as part of a design team responsible for the production of plans and specifications for the construction of District projects OR as part of a consultant contract management team responsible for coordinating the plans and specifications for the construction of District projects.
Compile data.
Check layout of manholes, inlet structures and pipelines, and calculate hydraulic properties of pipelines and drainage channels.
Correlate information obtained from topographic and other maps and plans.
Extend estimates.
Process project information in preparation for construction bidding.
Perform related civil engineering work.
May investigate storm water, sanitary, and combined sewer complaints and recommend solutions to problems.
May make necessary field inspections to determine existing conditions.
May meet with government officials, consultants, and the general public to help define District policies and responsibilities.
Additional Responsibilities:
May perform related work as required or as delegated by supervisors.
Bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering; and four years of progressively responsible related engineering experience.
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering: comprehensive knowledge of District regulations and procedures applicable to sewer construction.
Problem solving and communication skills necessary to work effectively with contractors, engineers, developers, municipalities and MSD staff to ensure the successful completion of these projects.
Considerable knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing and design software.
Extensive skill in reading and interpreting complex engineering plans and specifications.
Exceptional skill in maintaining records and preparing technical reports.
Thorough skill in analyzing and integrating data.

OPERATIONS - COLLECTION SYSTEMS:
Training and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, preferably civil; and four years of progressively responsible related engineering experience, including at least two years of experience in sewer plan design and review and/or construction.

Thorough knowledge of District regulations and procedures applicable to sewer construction.

OPERATIONS – ASSET MANAGEMENT: Training and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Environmental engineering preferred. 4 years of related, progressively responsible engineering experience.
Desirable Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering, lifecycle asset management, and reliability.
Skill in the use of engineering tools including personal computers and making engineering computations.
Considerable skill in reading and interpreting engineering plans and specifications.
Considerable skill in analyzing and integrating data.
Skill in forming and maintaining effective working relationships with consultants and contractors.
Considerable skill in maintaining records, developing, and preparing reports, skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
Skill in performing effectively as a member of the team in carrying out the District's mission and philosophy.
Skill in performing essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of others.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri, or the ability to obtain this license within six months of hire.
Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state in which the employee resides.
