Civil Engineering Technology Instructor

Northwest Mississippi Community College seeks a full-time 10-month instructor to lead the Civil Engineering Technology program on the Senatobia Campus to excellence by providing modern instruction, a professional environment, and a solid reputation in our communities for quality instruction and highly qualified and desired graduates for employment.

Minimum Requirements:  Must have a minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in the field of civil engineering.  Must be able to demonstrate successful experience in all areas of civil engineering work to include safety, CAD, GIS, surveying, and material testing.  Demonstrated professional demeanor, positive contributions to a team, and desire for continuous improvement.  Associate of Applied Science in Civil Engineering Technology or directly related field. 

Preferred Qualities:  Licensed surveyor in Mississippi. Experience using drones in the filed of Civil Engineering.  Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or directly related field.

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):

1. Continually ensure that all requirements of all partners are met.


2. Maintain a professional demeanor with all students, coworkers, and community members.


3. Provide excellent classroom and lab instruction in modern civil engineering technology practices through positive and inspiring learning experiences for all students using a variety of teaching methods and making every learning situation relevant to career preparation.


4. Prepare detailed lesson plans, job sheets, and laboratory demonstrations for all units of instruction. 


5. Recommend changes in the curriculum to maintain a current program. 


6. Monitor the progress for each student in the program to include those in apprenticeship programs. 


7. Work as a teammate with other instructors and support staff.


8. Update and continually improve your own teaching techniques and civil engineering technology skills. 


9. Adhere to compliance regulations for all Federal and State guidelines related to professional licensing qualifications. 


10. Teach the depth and scope of the class materials as outlined in the syllabus and catalog and relate the instructions to careers and employer expectations. 


11. Prepare and grade examinations based upon course objectives, publish lesson schedule, and return all assignments in a timely manner. 


12. Implement evaluation for outcomes assessment and achieve established results while maintaining college standards of student satisfaction. 


13. Work creatively in all classes, encourage students, and maintain satisfactory retention. 


14. Begin and end each class at the designated times, providing a full period of instruction. 


15. Accurately maintain attendance records in accordance with the Attendance Policy, submit class roster daily, maintain a separate record of attendance and grades that is clearly labeled and turned in at the end of the term. 


16. Accurately maintain all reports required by NWCC, Mississippi Community College Board, and other partners.


17. Attend faculty meetings, in-service meetings, and other college events as required by the College. 


18. Participate with the civil engineering technology class in extracurricular activities, such as campus and community events.


19. Supervise all laboratory experience. 


20. Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment. 


21. Maintain proper inventory of all equipment and tools assigned to the program. 


22. Maintain an active advisory committee which meets twice a year, minimally. 


23. Visit industry to develop and maintain a good rapport with employers.


24. Take an active role in the advisement and counseling of students.


25. Assist students to find employment in an occupation related to training.


26. Serve on various faculty committees.


27. Contribute to the overall mission of the College by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Associate Vice President for Workforce Solutions & Career Tech Education.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the instructor is regularly required to do the following:

• Stand for long periods 


• Talk, hear, view, and assist students 


• Communicate with others in person, telephone, zoom, & live chat


• Sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms


• Stand, walk, stoop, or kneel


• Occasionally lift and/or move items of at least 15-20 pounds
